It's getting extremely hard to get hold of CD singles now, which are my prefered format - uncompressed (full wav quality), remixes and something to physically own are the things I love about them.
Could this be the final nail in the coffin for the CD single?

As a typical music buyer then I'm not surprised the CD single has died...I hate them. I own maybe three. I could never get my head around buying something that was physically the same size as a CD album but only for one track.
I never felt like that about 7" records, or even 12" re-mixes. Maybe I just couldn't afford the albums back in the 80's!
My preference is the compilation CD. I download and burn the latest tracks.

There was a programme on last week about the X Factor winner, whatshername, the one that murder that song, and her CD single was in the shop priced at £3.99. It would also cost me £1 to park in town.
I don't want the extended remixed club house 12" version, or the karaoke version, in fact I do want it at all, but if I had to buy it, it would cost 79p, much cheaper and no hassle.

First the conventional light bulb, now the humble CDS is going the same way as the Vinyl single and the 8 track cartridge.

Robots are already being developed to replace DJs. To retain a little authenticity the robots will only charge £50 and have an illegal record collection
Appreciate what YBE is saying but I find the overall quality of downloads a tad

Although on the subject of download file quality, it's nice to see an increasing amount of higher quality files (320kbps) that are DRM-free.

Maybe they are worried that there may not be many places left to actually buy a Physical CD on the High Street. At the moment, people living in rural areas already have to travel 20 miles to use a Post Office, I can't see many purpose trips of the same mileage or more just to buy a handful of CD's. Far easier to just do it from the comfort of your own Armchair.
I personally think that this is just the beginning. Already people are doing their weekly shop from their PC's, not to mention luxury shopping for gifts and xmas too.
Anybody else tax their car online?, how many insure online too?, as opposed to using high street brokers, (they are small business trying to earn a living too)?. How many use Vistaprint rather than their friendly high street printers? do you even know who the printing companies are in your locality?. How many people buy from Ebay or online retailers?.
If you have answered yes to the majority of those questions or even all of them, or suddenly realise that you shop more online than on the high street, then without realising it, you are 'conforming', to a new trend and a whole new aspect of retailing, which is both cheaper for the owners of the businesses and for the clients using them, but its bad news for society in general, as there will be less social interaction and fewer jobs.
Of course less social interaction also means less need or interest in socialising, fewer pubs, clubs etc = less entertainment. More people staying at home, drinking cheap beer from the Supermarket and watching on-demand movies or sporting events from all over the world.
I wonder who'll be the first pioneering Vicar to offer £60 online weddings?, How about Sir Richard Branson? - 'Virgin Weddings' will certainly appeal to the puritan folk. How ironic if the couple are on computers 100's of miles apart or even countries apart yet getting hitched on their £10 / month broadband connections as easy as ordering a Pizza!. Maybe its already starting, perhaps it will appear 'next' week. More bad news for us if it does.

Yep I do just about everything online even talk to other DJs lol....
Just imagine if you work from home you never need go out again ever as long as you have an internet connection it can all be brought to you.....
Worrying times indeed... I wonder if we will all eventually be jut linked to the net at birth and just live a virtual life while our bodies are just on some kind of life support machine.
Or is this already our reality?
