I done a 50+ Christmas Party and they kept asking for barn dance. I stuck on 5,6,7,8 and was going to follow it with Cotton Eye Joe but they said it was too fast. I asked them to name a track but they didn't know the names.
Any ideas of suitable popular tracks? I've got a similar function to do next week so want to be prepared.

I can only suggest proper line dancing albums, my mastermix line dancing album comes in handy.

I think ( and could be wrong) there is a difference between Line dancers and Barn Dancers.
I do not have a clue about Barn dancing type music but guess there must be an album of greatest hits out there somewhere. Dont barn dancers have a caller??

Coming from a carrot crunching combine harvester driving yokel part of the UK, there is a difference between Barn and Line.
Line is as stated, dancing in a line, barn is more 'take your partner and swing her around abit'
Thats as far as my knowledge on the subject goes...

They asked for line dancing too and I got away with:
Mavericks - dance the night
shania twain - man i feel like a woman
Mika-Grace Kelly
Scissor sisters-Dont Feel Like Dancing
Christina Aggy - Candyman
I will admit that the gig was very hard work. They also kept asking for "disco" music but when I asked for specific tracks again the reply was "oh you know, usual disco stuff" so I kept it to cheesey stuff like Nolans, Abba, Agadoo.
Teenage disco's are a doddle compared to doing older functions. At least the teenagers give you names of tracks they want.

They didn't mean Disco then?

Barn dance comes under ballroom sequence dances (i think)
I've danced to bye bye blackbird before and pack up your troubles.
I'm sure there are some more modern tunes with a similar beat that you could use instead.
If you want the steps i can give you those too!!!! (signs of a mispent youth)
here's a little confusion for you....
barn dance can also refer to a type of dancing which is the English equivalent to a ceilidh with a caller

I've posted the playlist here
http://www.dj-forum.co.uk/index.php?s=&...st&p=228772The beginning is background music during the meal. I did get everyone up dancing a few times. A couple of the dances they all done in a circle.
Couldn't of been that bad because I was told that the majority would leave at about 10pm so they asked me to liven it up a bit after at 9pm so they could have "a bit of exercise" before they left. But everyone stayed until the end at 11pm.
I was getting to the stage where I thought I should phone a friend and did think of you Sandy as I've seen you mention before that you have ballroom experience ;)
