Just to help out some newcomers and oldtimers on here.

Mixing basic tracks is frequently discussed on here so let's help out a bit.

I am after some simple two track mixes.

ie

Edwin Starr -Contact

into

Edwin Starr - HAPPY Radio
vokf
Most 70's disco (EW&F etc)...

into

Anita Ward- Ring my Bell

Nice and easy beatmatch :-)

Danno13
Candi Staton - Young hearts run free

Into

Rose Royce - Car Wash
Kingy
I don't do much, but a very easy one is Chic "Good Times" into Patrice Rushen "Forget me nots". Do it on the handclaps. Works well.

Scissor sisters - I Don't Feel Like dancing

into

Clock - Oh What a Night
Ste Owens
The Way I are - Timbaland

into

Closer - Ne Yo
Danno13
I tend to use at least 2-3 of the following in a mixed set, on most gigs, as they're all around the 118 - 124bpm mark.

MJ - Billie Jean
Madonna - Like a virgin
Madonna - Holiday
Whitney - I wanna dance with somebody
Cyndi Lauper - Girls just wanna have fun
Human League - Don't you want me
Kool & The Gang - Celebration

Ok, but which are the easiest or a simple 2 track mix to get some of these guys into a basic mix to try out?
Danno13
Human League and Michael Jackson are probably the easiest.

I'd personally steer clear of anything not using a drum machine if you're practising as a novice, as human drummed tracks are more challenging (as New Labour would say..ie difficult).

Pick 12in / ext mixes with nice long intros/outros and build up to shorter or radio mixes as you get more proficient.

A good starter mix could be The Original - I Love you Baby into Strike - U Sure Do. (Am I showing my age??)

Maybe Alexia - Uh La La La into Gina G - OOh Aah Just a little bit

Mobile DJ's do play this stuff, right..?? tongue.gif

Timberland - The Way I are ---> Black Eyed Peas - My Humps.

Dropped a nice mix the other night as my sisters wedding ...

Bobby B - 2 can play ---> Living Joy- Dreamer --> Strike - U Suro Do --> Tamperer - Feel it.

plus

Faithless - Insomnia --> Darude - Sandstorm --> Eric Prydz - Pjanoo

just follow the beats and drop the bassline (use the EQ) of the outgoing track on the way in ... works for me... I'm 'reasonable' at mixing at best, but it normally sounds ok live and the dancefloor keep on going.

Pick up the 12" mixes of both and you can't get it wrong really! I learnt on this stuff. With the technology nowadays it's even easier.
