Dukesy
Yep - looks like a good machine.

If you're intending on playing high-quality mp3s, then I would suggest getting a USB external hard drive in the future, as you'll soon 'fill up' that 40GB!

Mobile Wise
You can reduce the mp3 'quality' to 128kps, to store more files, which should allow you plenty of room to 'back-up' your 'main plays', if your going to use a laptop for existing music 'back-up' purposes. Mp3's at 160kps are not bad quality wise either.

It really depends on what amount of music you want to store.

Club Wise
I would consider using Mp3's of a higher sound quality (192kps and above) for club sound systems - else your mp3 may sound very different to that of your CD's or vinyl tracks, in my experience!

But the Laptop seems very good, BTW

Cool, sounds good. Im thinking of switching to Mp3 in the future. smile.gif

Plenty of possibilities with using MP3 software and it saves having to carry heavy CD cases around with u. biggrin.gif

Gud luk with the laptop. What Software u using?
I've experimented with a few but can't decide which 1 is 4 me. Ots DJ is fairly popular + PCDJ red

Be sure you want to go down the lap-top route before you buy.......

I have been using "computer based" music for dj'ing purposes for several years and would certainly recommend OTS. I first used it at the radio station I worked at and it was a little troublesome a couple of years ago. However, the newest version (the one that will run on XP) is much improved. tongue.gif

The other poster was quite right about using an external hard drive, as much as anything because if you fill it up, it's easy to replace it with another bigger one. I use an external because I can connect it to my home PC to load the music up and then unplug it, take it on the road; easy as that.

Back to Laptops though, the main problem with them is they are not easy to fix when they go wrong (or the mender wants a fortune to do it). I have custom-built a rack mounted PC for Dj'ing which whilst being rather bigger than a laptop does give the following advantages:

1. It's robust - laptops are notoriously fragile

2. Lets say the soundcard goes belly-up, you can replace it with another one for £20 - £50 quid, depending on the quaility you want. You would probably have to chuck the laptop away if the sound card goes 'cos no-one will fix it.

3. The operating system is on the PC hard drive and all the music is on the external hard drive. The total permanent failure of one hard drive means you have still got what's on the other left !

4. The drunken wally won't damage more than the keyboard & mouse if he chucks a pint over the table you've got the equipment on. (I use a flat screen monitor and they're great). If you get a pint chucked over the laptop then you can wave it goodbye !

Anyway, I hope that's useful.

As i said on my very first post earlier today, i'm new to the site today so i really must do an itro on me !!!!!!!!!

Greetings to you all................

Easyer said than done mate some little **** a few years ago did then ran off all i could think to do was save my gear the best i could.

I know it's side tracking (but hey - that's like 'avving a chat, init'!)
but after an 'incident' I had many moons ago - on some larger functions now, I take an 'all round roadie' or two.

Not everyone will be able to find someone that is willing to come out on a gig every week, let alone hump gear up and down stairs, in & out of cars, set-up and de-rig, etc, but I suppose I've been very lucky.

It was discussed on here before about 'minder' like roles - and that the roadie might look 'intimdating' or a 'catalyst' for 'trouble', but I can say hand on my heart, that my roadies don't look like Phill Mitchel!!!!
More like a smart and tidy Derek Acorah and Super Mario!

But I have a little more 'peace of mind' when it comes to the wandering 'pint' or 'crowd' - my gear, or 'tools' cost money, and the 'roadies' know and appreciate that. They know the score.

I'm not on a soapbox - just have very helpful roadies!

All my mates that used to help me dj are now fully working djs on there own right now so i have nearlly run out of friends that could rodie for me. but i have only really ever had 1 problem as im quite good at sorting stuff out on my own you know what with being a kray tongue.gif fear.gif

im sure someone in the room would know who he was. but i usually keep my equipment away frm people, so they cant do this.

fingers crossed.
