i'm lucky enoug 2 have a trailer so i have a trunk flightcase on wheels wich takes allot of my lights......but you can get flightcases for your
scanners very cheaply.
Ask crispy how much he can get them for..... Please remember not to give links to other dj suppliers

Chris do you sell cases for these lights and does everybody carry there effect lights in flight cases.
I'm afraid I don't carry any of my lighting in flight cases
My scanners are still in their original cardboard boxes.
Im sure I will be ordering some cases from Chrispy in the very near future.

Joe - why have you got a herd of Multicoloured Water Buffalo in your Avatar??.
Flightcases - very expensive especially if you go for the Stucco type. Adda Boxes can set you back between £35 - £70 each for the single effect, and £50 - £120 each if you go for the double effect type and they are polycarb type and not stucco.
As far as the Stucco type go, the flightcase which is included in the Colourscan kit, which holds 2x Scanners and a controller would cost you around £150 if bought from a nameless flightcase manufacturer here in the UK. Before you ask, I can't get those individually, and as I have stated I have made enquiries to source them from flightcase manufacturers.
Personally, I bought a stack of Ammo boxes from the Local Army Surplus for around £5 each, sprayed them black, foam lined them and they make the perfect all metal flightcase for Datamoons, Scanners and Moonflower sized effects.

Army surplus ammo boxes is a great idea for transporting lights!
I've just bought a fantastic looking "all ally" flight case and built one of my amps & a graphic equaliser into it. It looks great but cost alot though (£110). The main problem is i can hardly lift it !
PS I'm a brand new member today. Will try to find time to post an introduction about me later (how
very self-indulgent)
Ian
Wow, what a gud idea!
I've got an army surplus shop rite near me!
I think I might pop down there sum time and c what theyv got
ur full of gud ideas Chris. lol
Way cheaper than the 'conventional' flight case.

and must be pretty solid?
What do they look like once they've been all sprayed up black?

With a bit of care and effort ( or In your case - get somebody else to do it

) then they can look like ordinary black flightcases. Plus most have metal rivetted handles already fitted, some even have padlockable catches.
Being for ammunition, they have to be very robust and so some extent spark proof - so they are very well made.

I use the aluminium tool cases from DIY stores for my CD’s, take out the tool holder from the lid & remove the plastic clips & dividers. These hold about 150 CD’s for £15 a lot cheaper than CD flight cases & just as strong, the only down side is the lids don’t come off. I can’t see where the different hinges are worth £30 to £40.
I'm also looking at a cheaper option for transporting lighting. After looking on the web i have found large Amo Boxes 66cm X 23cm X 23cm for £12.50 I still need to measure up the lights to see if these would be of any use.

Sorry to disagree djsounds, but those cheap tool box cases just dont last the distance..... anyone who works regularly will know that they fall to pieces after 6 months... so in the long run, it is false ecomony...... 5 star cases/stucco cases although maybe more expensive at first, they last for years and years!

Yes, I have two of the previosuly mentioned cheaper toolboxes myself, used in the purpose that it was designed for!, and both have fallen apart. One has a large elastic band holding it shut since the catches broke off

, and the other is missing the carrying handle. Bad enough like this when carrying tools & Soldering Iron, but I wouldn't trust it to hold my CD Collection

.
Ammo Boxes, are available in all sorts of formats, both on the 'net and from your local Army Surplus stores (Yellow Pages). There are a wide variety of sizes and prices depending on where you shop

, and its amazing what a quick spray of Black Hammerite will achieve. Since the MOD works to tight "Mil-Spec" approvals on everything it buys, Ammo boxes tend to be better constructed than some flightcases! and often at a 20th of the price

.
I bought a Job lot of these boxes from an Auction during the summer, and managed to case my entire hire stock and Roadshow Lighting for around £150 - and that is a lot of lights. Had I taken the conventional Flightcasing route, then it would have been almost £1300 and thats Trade!.

Bill, with mine, I just drilled four small holes into the back of the flightcase, and fitted braked castors to it. Quite easy to do, especially if you use the threaded, spiked screw bases which you just hammer into the wood - these are used to screw speaker grills into and also fit small castors. Still doesn't help on stairs, but the idea works on long corridors.

Re tool cases, I have recently bought a very big heavy duty plastic tool chest from a DIY shop. I know what you're all thinking but it's very robust.
It has a slide-out handle on one end and wheels on the other (great for not putting my back out again!).
I use it for transporting the myriad of wires / extension leads etc that we all have to use. To be honest it wouldn't be up to the job for lights etc. but it's great for wiring and putting tools, spare fuses etc in the tool tray. £27.99 I think it was.

I use a plastic tool box to house all lighting and signal cables and a padded sports bag for all the power leads. The tool box is sturdy enough to stand on! Well it takes my ample weight!
I have 2 Acme Colour blasters, an NJD Chaos and an Lyquest data moon all on a T bar. All prewired to a standard Bulgin 8 way connector. It is not housed in anything! It is just about liftable now!

At home it hangs from hefty brackets in a garage.
It is very heavy and stripping the lights off would be easier, however it takes seconds to put up and take down! Also next year the light will need some black stove enamel as 5 years of road use they are getting a bit scratched!

Everything I have is flightcased, I have a couple of 6U cases, a 8U and a 4U for equipment and a trunk on wheels for most of my lighting. Am in process of buying more kit, so more flight cases required !
