I've been back doing celebration parties for about a year now and I don't have many great songs to end a night on.

I like to get everyone on the floor at the end of the night with the 'happy couple', 'birthday boy/girl', etc in the middle and everyone in a circle as well. It seems to raise the atmosphere at the end of the night and closes off the night well.

Normally I use New York New York, which is cheesy as anything but i think works for 40ths and the right age group.

I did a wedding the other day and used Beatles - All You Need is Love, which created the right mood and fades nicely at the end so you can wish everyone on their way.

So there it is ... my list of 2.

What other classics can I use and for what type of functions would they be appropriate?

But recently I have been finishing my Saturday night residency with a different Xmas song every week and an announcement of how many days it is till Xmas. Goes down well with the crowd (although not with the door staff!)

I always finish of with what they request and always a good 5 minutes before the end, so when i have played the last track and they ask for more ( which has happend a few times that is why i finish early but not) i always ask if they are going out to party and if yes i play basshunter now your gone and you should hear the girls scream lol floor fills and people leave all hyped up.

I always get a bigger applause when i do something like that.

I have even been called a legend

I think it depends on the type of function you're doing, they day I play basshunter as my last song is the day I'll pack it in lol.

Personally I always slow it down 15 mins from the end otherwise you have a load of people hyper 1 minute and the lights on the next and thats when things can get messy....

the younger parties love it, and i would never think of packing it in because someone asked for that type of music to be played at the end of the night.

I play big yellow taxi...for SMITH then for JONES it soon clears the room lol.

Well Jim its a great song to end the night on but since one of my pub doo's got turned into a war zone over it I'm a bit sceptical playing it now with the Liverpool connection...

It real depends on the crowd etc.

We wind it right up 500 miles livin, on a prayer etc then into Time of my life

Have finished with Pink So What latly but have to be with the right people.etc.

But whenn finished and packing away put on Hey jude and listern to them them leaving singing it.

Some times the venue ask you to turn all music off and this cant happen sometimes I will ask if I can play it while there leaving and had a gret responce from the venue.

All venues and clients are different which is what makes this job so grat you casn't script it.

I've used Leona Lewis A Moment Like This a few times lately. It was requested as the last track at a wedding and went down really well so have used it a few more times since.

Lots of choices, two points to bear in mind, 1. Humor of the audience 2.If you play to the same people on a regular basis try and vary it a bit.

I mentioned this earlier in the thread but something I started about 6 weeks ago has taken on a life of its own and become incredibly popular. In my Saturday night residency I end with my Countdown to Xmas. I announce how many days it is until the big day and play a different Xmas song each week as the last song of the night. I was dubious at first but they are going nuts for it, they absolutely love it. Seriously, give it a try!!!

I often finish with Zoe version of Get Happy from the Pop Idol Cd goes down a treat everyone goes away singing
