I wonder if any one can help me.

Have been a mobile dj for approx 8 or 9 years now and to cut a very long story short, i now offer karaoke to my clients.

I am not very experienced with Karaoke and would like a bit of info if anyone can help.

The microphones that i let the punters use are ok, but budget ones.

I run a karaoke program through a laptop and the microphones are attached directly to the mixer as normal.

I have no effects what so ever on the mixer or on the karaoke program.

I have been told by a few colleagues who have done a bit of singing that i could really do with an effects unit, which makes peoples voices sound a lot warmer, by adding a touch of reverb.

I was told that the unit to go for was called a Lexicon and takes up 1u of rack space. I have looked at this and it is way over the top technically and expense wise. I do not do a great deal of karaoke, so am looking for a cost effective answer basically!!

Any ideas anyone???

Many thanks in advance

I am looking for some effect unit which will give me some reverb, echo and some other fancy effects - Not for Karaoke, just for when i talk.

Would this be ok to use between my Kam wirless mic receiver and denon mixer?
I presume the lead connection would go from the wireless mic receiver to the effects box and then into the mixer?

theres loads of 1u effects units about, i just sold a zoom 1201 on ebay, shame, you could have had that!

i bought it when i first started karaoke just over a year ago, heard a few people running karaokes using echo or reverb and i thought it sounded crap so i never bothered fotting it into the rack.

a couple of weeks ago i bought a new numark fx mixer with built in effects.

set the rig up on saturday before a gig and gave it a go with a little bit of reverb and to be honest it sounds a hell of a lot better than with nothing at all.

as long as you dont go over the top, just enough to take the edge off your voice, effects sre fine.

i was worried a little as id read that using effects can increase the chances of feedback, but had the mixer up pretty high later on on saturday and had no problems at all, just dropped the mid and treble channels a little which always seems to help.

I have a "minimix" - same kind of thing, but with 2 mic inputs and just reverb or echo.
It has a "vocal removal" option, but for proper karaoke, you'll just connect it to a mixer line input.
From testing at my end, it is perfect for karaoke or the odd vocal singer.
I've a 1-off Karaoke gig next weekend -will report back!

* And separate loop for a external effects unit

QKAM PRO 1500 WAS MY 1ST MIXER.

KAM PRO 1500 WAS MY 1ST MIXER. OVERPRICED BY ABOUT 25K. absolute tosh in my opinion.
the reverb and echo are awful in the extreme.

half the inputs gave up the ghost.
the mic overide never worked from new.

Never had a problem with KAM. I still have a KAM Twin CD Deck mixer that I use often despite having bought much fancier mixers since then, and I use 2 KAM radio mics for karaoke which sound great. My KAM gear has never let me down.

if theres one thing you cant say about Kam, and thats expensive!!!

Also if there was a fault from new (who uses mic override anyway?) then perhaps you should have taken it back? It seems people are far too willing to moan about things that they can do something about!!

The KAM stuff is just like alot of brands in that budget range, its affordable and the reliability of these Chinese imports has rocketed in recent years

rofl kam expensive!!! 25,000 too expensive PMSL!!! now that is funny you get what you pay for and any mixer under £300 IMHO is cheap i use lots of cheap stuff but i am realistic and know that decent products cost serious money
