I've got a couple of gigs coming up later this year that where the clients have put swing on the questionnaires.
I am a bit thin on the ground with swing so would love some suggestions for a few classic swing albums.
Anybody got some good recommendations?

Do you mean 40's Swing or R&B-type Swing?

Good question!
The only track that either have listed is a Dean Martin, so does that help?

Paul Smith
I would say it's the likes of Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin etc. You could also include Michael Buble, the Robbie 'Swing' Album & the Westlife 'Allow Us To Be Frank' - even Ray Quinn scared.gif

Don't go for "Essential Swing" then. It has tracks by R. Kelly, amongst others!

"The Number One Swing Album" has tracks by Dean Martin, Ella Fitzgerald etc. etc. Around a fiver from Amazon.

I didn't realise there was a CD called "Essential Swing", I was trying to say what would be a essential album to have.
Thanks for the pointers. I will order "The Number One Swing Album" thumbup.gif

Some great suggestions from Dave there too. Cheers.

hi Jim

As you have replied to some of my topics I think it's only fair I reply to one of yours!

If its any help check out my website at www.david-thomas.me.uk as I have put together a repertoire of the most well known and requested swing songs from the many shows I have performed at, so for titles of songs this may be a good point if reference.

as for albums there are always the "best of" .........to take a loook at but I found a series in HMV called the "NOW HERE'S" nothing to do with the now thats what I call music series but a set of artists such as......
Now Here's Sammy Davis, Now Here's Frank Sinatra, you get the idea

six discs were a mere £8 rolleyes.gif

And remastered songs too!

Don't forget the ladies too, Nina Simone, Ella Fitzgerald, Doris Day, Swing covers many artists....

OH a thought has just popped in the Soundtrack from the film What Women Want starring Mel Gibson
Awsome soudtrack with a very good mix of tracks to cover the swing genre!

Hope this helps.

I picked up a boxed set called "The Big Band Era" from Asda for about £5.

It has a selection of bands like Benny Goodman, Woody Herman, Tommy Dorsey, Count Basie etc. Well worth the little cost.
