Hi All

I use 2 Martin Roboscan & a couple of LED's but this week I was given a light screen & some 4 & 8 bulb traffic lights

Some of the lights are lighting up but others are not I have checked the bulbs & it is not them as I can put a bulb in that works & some sockets still do not light up.

Any ideas as to how I would go about fixing this

I take it that you have some form of lighting controller plugged into them?. Are the lights which don't light up in the same positions in both lightboxes?. If so it could either be a blown triac in the controller (triacs are the devices which switch the mains voltage on and off) but since triacs tend to fail in a manner whereby they are also stuck on its more likely to just be a fuse on the PCB inside the controller.

Other possibilities are a loose and broken wire in the leads or a wire has fallen out of the actual lampholder itself. Without some proper investigation and an electronic multimeter it will be impossible to know for sure, but the above suggestions are where I would be looking first.

It could also be that you are using a 3 channel controller instead of a 4 channel.
Another possibility is wires off the bulgin socket or lamp holders.

There are some tests you can do but it involves mains electricity, which kills, so if you're not confident/competent, then don't, but I can PM you if you feel able.

I think the controller is alright a lot of people have said to me it is probably the wiring as i forgot to say these were given to my wife to give to me from a lady whose husband used to be a dj but he died about 10 years ago & she was just going to throw them if nobody wanted them.

I think i need to get some sort of tester

I have a DMX dimmer pack, where one of the live wires/spades came off the bulgin socket, leaving me with only 3 working channels. I resolved it by opening the lid and sticking the spade back on, but can see that the wiring is a bit on the tight side. Also the microphone for the sound-to-light function is just, well 'floating' pretty much.

This controller in question is the rackmount Showtec RackDim:-
