hi everyone.
i have got my 2nd theme night to do this saturday and wanted your advice.
Its a 60's and 70's theme, so two different era's. i just wanted to know if i
should play rock & roll, n sixties first, and then go into seventies music,
or do you think it would be ok to mix the two. Like half hour or so of sixties
and then some 70's stuff, and back to rock n roll.
thanks,
kev.

I'd go for mixing the two types every half hour or so

Rock 'n' Roll is more 50's than 60's although it wasn't gone completely. But the rough edges had gone by the end of the 50's and less "aggressive" American singers appeared, Bobby Vinton being a good example,
The early 60's had people in the UK charts such as John Leyton, Bobby Vee, Del Shannon, Mike Berry, Joe Brown, Brooks Brothers, Carter Lewis, Adam Faith, Helen Shapiro, Chris Montez, Duane Eddy etc. none of whom could really be described as Rock 'n' Roll, then moved into the Beatles and Stones era with the Mersey Sound, Dave Clark Five, Brian Poole and the Tremeloes, Fourmost, Dusty Springfield, Lulu, Gerry & The Pacemakers etc etc etc.
Don't forget the heavy/psychedelic era with Jimi Hendrix, Cream, Pink Floyd etc etc or Soul with Otis Redding, Sam & Dave, Wilson Pickett etc. etc. or Reggae or Motown
Just a few examples, but don't fall into the trap of thinking the 60's was the time of rock 'n' roll.

yep 60's was an era with all sorts of great stuff tho most people have a very narrow view of the 60's forgetting all the classic soul and stuff and remember the trememloes and the like.
it's your job not to just entertain but to educate as well. imho
play stuff that they wouldnt usually assiciste with an era or genre bit of good mic work and you got a great gig thats a bit different from the norm.
mull it over and play a few tunes at home it can give you that edge that others dont have.
hope i explained myself ok there lol.
