ummm Belt Driven tt's
Belt driven turntables are made for the "beginners" market and for people that don't have pockets the size of santa's sack.
Although for them reasons, belts tend to be slow at starting, the idea of scratching can go right out the window and beat mixing is (believe it or not) harder to keep into a mix as the motor isn't as strong so the pitch tends to change a little on it's own
Directs have the extra ump in the motor department, and have much more stability to the platter. 9/10 Directs will be fitted into night clubs booths, so is always a good sign whats good and what aint

.
Although Directs are a little more dosh, it's worth it in the long run, as they are better in performance, and tend to keep their value unlike belts.
Look into the mix scratch section of forum for good mixing/scratching advice.
