It seems that this is such a good site and forum that we have visitors from across the world -Australia,India,Canada and USA.
Is it possible for the country of origin to be displayed somehow on the replies.
I think there was a thread from someone in Canada recently that gave the impression they were only just getting into the cdbased dj'ing and everyone was still into vinyl.
It is also somewhat awkward when you dont now whether you are "talking"to a seasoned vet or a teenager sitting in his bedroom playing at dj,ing. No disrespect meant but you treat one or the other in a different way.

Well, I reply to each with the same level of Advice smile.gif and I do spend equal time reading and posting a reply to every post - providing that it is a topic that I know something about.

Besides, I was once that teenager playing at D.J'ing and hopefully when I've reached the dizzy heights of Mikeees' age then i'll also become the seasoned vet 221.gif

I know that a lot of the older, more experienced D.J's take an instant dislike....well maybe dislike is too strong a word, lets just say they treat the younger D.J's with suspicion and in some cases it is justified although lets not tar every new D.J with the same brush biggrin.gif

Having worked on various D.J Workshops and projects over the years, I have seen some talented young D.J's, some who have used the project and training as a foothold to move on to Radio or media work smile.gif . Lets face it, it's far better for a youngster to have an interest in being a D.J and starting their own roadshow - than hanging around the local shopping centre smoking, drinking and taking drugs!

I know that D.J'ing is like living in a small village community - where you are not classed "a local" unless you have been there for 25 years or more! ohmy.gif - but part of the reason I set up this forum was to let the likes of Mikeee, Spindoctor and you Trev - i.e the more experienced element of the industry - to offer advice to those who may want to start up in business and not yet have any idea to the work that it involves.

Hopefully - this forum may contribute to, as I know Mikeee wishes - a reduction of the number of the "Cowboy" element in this industry, who can be of any age wink.gif

I was thinking of starting a new status of membership for the under 16 members called "Junior Members" who would have the fact displayed on each post - as do Admin and Mods, and Mikees "Respected Member". However I don't think that would be fair on them - especially as you have already mentioned Trev - it may reduce the amount of good and helpful advice offered to them by the older members smile.gif . It would also require them to declare the fact that they are under 16 when they sign up - and so far, placing your birthdate in the sign up form is not obligatory.

You can also declare your location - again voluntary - on your profile if you wish (which members can access using the "member CP" option, although for safety reasons some people may not wish to put their exact location on a public forum, so again i'm leaving that entirely optional.

I am looking at some forum "Add ons" at the moment which may make this forum better and have some of the features you have suggested, although any information you enter will still remain optional. I just need about 36 hours in a day to get it all sorted out along with all of the other work!
The Spindoctor
ROFL so now i'm a seasoned Vet........... says he who proceeded to play And the Beat goes On by the Whispers and announce it as Hanging on a String Loose Ends at my gig tonight!!!!!!!!!! ohmy.gif yes even we oldies make the occasional cock up!

Very well said!
DJTREV
I hopeI didnt give the wrong impression when I was referring to seasoned vets and teenagers.
With people like Chris,Mikeee and Spin its very much tongue in cheek banter; they have been there, done that ,got the teeshirt but with the younger dj's they are looking for help and guidance as they start out on what could be a very enjoyable career.
I think I will stop there because having just read this thro I am beginning to sound like a boring old fart!!!! 363.gif 1062.gif 1092.gif
The Spindoctor
Trev thats ok ! The more you sound like an old fart the more chance of becoming repected member!! LOL
kazzachi
Lets give the youngsters as much help and advice as we can - we were all young once after all!! Its usually the pompous old dogs who think that they have nothing left to learn who bemoan the youngsters. Lets big it up for the young - uns who want our advice and are level headed enough to take it - anyone not wishing to share their wealth of knowledge with those beginning - what are you afaid of? 095.gif
Chrispy
Well said that L.J smile.gif

We should be investing our knowledge and experience on the next generation of future D.J's and if you won't invest in the future then its time to pack up and join Trev's home for retired D.J's.

I don't think that DJ Trev meant any offence by what he posted, I think it was just poor choice of wording that made it seem that he was having a pop at the younger members.

This forum was partly set up to help and advise any new members (whatever their age) and that will always remain whilst I am here.

It would also be nice to see more advice post's from those who are actively complaining about the cowboy element amongst us actually helping to perhaps irradicate the problem. rolleyes.gif without guidence and support any newbie to D.J'ing could be a future liability to the industry!.

Thanks Chris ;you are right I certainly wasnt having a pop at the youngsters.
You and the other moderators are the ones who can give sound advice to these young guns, I am afraid I dont know the ar-e end of an amp.from my elbow.so it would be no good me trying
I just like to come on here and share ideas and thoughts about dj'ing in general I am quite happy to leave the technical stuff to you.

Perhaps, the national flag next to our names???????????
Chrispy
Not a bad idea Mikeee. Features for doing this are not available on the invision board, but what I will do, is add some flags to the Avators section on the new board, so members can choose to display their national flag, if they don't want a standard or the own avator's displayed.

Obviously, there is bound to be a flag that I miss, so once we move host's, if you flag isn't available then let me know and i'll add it.
3rd Generation Discos
