Hi, I want something strong to hang my effects on, I do have a lighting stand with t-bar at the moment but it's not very safe. I have been offered some trilite in payment for a contract at a hotel but it's big, bulky stuff and I don't think I could use it very often. I have seen available a 3m piece of trilite resting on two stands or I could buy a pair of power stands. The only thing with t-bars is balancing the lights evenly, and because some of my effects are quite heavy I don't know wether they will be any good. Anyone give me a bit of advice to help me decide? 533.gif

Loz,

There have been plenty of comments on this previously although a lot of them are part of other topics.

Here's my set up -

2 Mobil Tech Wind Up Stands, tripod bases.
2 adaptors, the trussing slides into them.
2 x 2m lengths of ladder trussing.
1 x 1m length of ladder trussing.

It cost me including VAT £600.

I'm certain Chris will be able to sort you out a good deal on something similar.

This gives me the variance of span from 2m to 5m, big and small enough for most venues.

I can honestly say that this has been the best bit of kit I have bought. I used to struggle with stands, they buggered the muscles in my shoulders and I was always worried about balancing lights on them and them toppling over. Now, no problems, set the unit up, hang the lights on and hey presto, all you then have to do is wind it up.

It would all depend on how many lights you want to hang for your normal gigs.... I have found that t-bars are perfectly safe as long as you situate them in the right place and do a bit of a "tester" on them before the gig starts. Trilite - although a little big - is really light (remember to wear gloves in winter when handling - it does get vveerrry cccoollldd) - see the other link re goal posts vs t bars
