...tracks do you play from the 1990s compared to other decades during a public / private function?

I do play tracks from the 90's but these tend to be fewer than say the 70's or 80's.

Very few it's too recent to be "cool" classics and to old to be modern.

Give it another 5-10 years and I expect everyone will be wanting it.

played more this year with the 21st and 30th birthday parties

but generally a lot less than the other decades

Think it depends on the age group of course but generally 90s not played as much. Might be that it didn't have so many stand out tracks as previous decades - or possibly it takes 20 years or more to become a classic?

I agree. The "decade theme nights" seem to shift up, along with the flow of time. eg: Sixties theme nights were the big "in thing" about 20 years ago, then it moved up to "70's night" about 10 years ago, now its "80s nights"...logically, its gotta be "90's nites" pretty soon.

My personal view on this evolution of decade theme nights is that its people reliving their youth/drinking/partying days.

Interesting question, as I was pondering just this point the other day.

I carry around 2 cases of 90s CD singles, and hardly ever play any of them. From memory, the most recent were Sandstorm, Cotton Eye Joe, Gina G's offering, Step's 5678 and Cher's 'Believe'. I can't think of any others at the moment.

I reckon I could ditch the vast majority and not really notice.

I'v been playing more of the 90s dance 'classics' rec. like Rhythm is a dancer , livin joy- dreamer, alex party-dont give me ur luv.
Also MC Hammer, Vanilla ice ,- (just about 90s) Chesney Hawkes, Reef , house of pain - jump around
but its mainly the early 90s stuff < I think we do play 90s tunes without actually realising it? 533.gif Mambo number 5 anyone!!! laugh.gif

Tunes like utah saints and the likes of cascada type dance tracks are starting a mini 90s revival?

Bands like Oasis, pulp, Blur seem to have been forgoten in my opinion

Interesting thing here that a few months ago I remeber watching on tv, late at night, him off radio 2 - Stuart Mc - something, doing a series of programes which discussed each decade of music from the 50s till 2000.

They had a number of different guests and artisits from each era disscussing why their decade was the best.

Eventually the 90s won because it was agreed that it was the decade that had so many different influences of music styles and types in that it summed up the last 50 yrs of music. Go figure, so why dont we play the 90s all the time then?

Anybody remember what the programme was called?

Personally I love playing the 80s stuff really but being in my 20s during the 90s my memories of discos and clubs are based around this time fright.gif
