When I set up at a wedding function, if the tables provided for the stage (or usually left on the stage) are 'undressed', I ask for a table cloth/s. I personally feel that the presentation on the tables should be in the same theme as the rest of the tables in the room.
Sometimes, I provide my own cloth.
What do you do? By the way, I use the tables for the music folders.

Yes I agree here. Usually the venue will provide the matching tablecloths. It looks a lot better.
It amazes me how often you turn up at an event and no table has been provided for the DJ.

My rig is completlely self-contained. I have fold-up stands which support my CD cases, an Ultimax Winch 'n' Wheel stand for decks, spare amps, lighting controller etc. plus S&H starcloth booth.
I never use tables at venues.

I too am completely self contained and never require a table from the venue.
When I used to, I always had my own table cloth, which I used to cover any table provided.

I've also got a self contained setup - prolight DJ stand with starcloth to cover cables.
As I use iRock lights, I transport then in a big flightcases that hold 2 so use those to rest cd's on etc..

Take all my own stands too.
In any case the front is always obscured by the starcloth (or screens if 2 setups are out).

I always take my own table too that fits behind the star cloth. Its an aluminum fold up one that folds down pretty small, weighs next to nothing and costs £19.99

If I use just one bass bin, it will fit over the top of it too.

I might be wrong here but I think Dan means at a wedding fair not doing a gig. Or do you all mean you take your rig to a wedding fair???

Nope!
I mean during a function.
I used to have the ultimax stand and the fold-up tables etc, etc but it was all extra stuff to lug around, and pretty pointless if the venue left 2 - 3 tables in the area I'm performing! I'd only end up placing more kit under the tables or out of sight anyway! Sure, if no tables have been supplied then of course, a pain! But most of the gigs I cover always seem to leave a table out!

Upppsss sorry, yes I use a table but use my light screens at the moment due to a few request for them..
I did dress the table with some black felt before that though...

Self-contained here, too.
Un ugly array of hideous looking light boxes hides the mayhem behind.

Out of interest how does the fold-up stands arrangement (for support of your CD cases) work, and what size workspace does it provide? Thanks.

I went to a wedding at the weekend, and the DJ used a cheap 20 quid B&Q plastic shelving for putting his "rig" on - a 3 shelving version of the following (times 2), one for the front bit and one for the side where his CDs were in a flight case...

I have to say that in 25 years of DJing I have always used the table at the venue, and never had a problem getting one. I don't see the point taking a table with me, if I can get one there. Anything to reduce the amount of clutter I need to take with me is a bonus.

In the old days when using records then CDs I used my own stand as any tables provided were for the music collection. But now on laptop I dont need to lug 10 boxes of discs around so have always used venues table..

I used to use venue tables but did have problems a couple of times where they didn't have a spare one available or I had to go chasing after the venue manager to sort one out. I also like one of just the right size. Too small and I can't get everything on it, too big and it sticks out at the side of the star cloth.
Might be an Essex thing but its not very often I get one supplied automatically. Perhaps they are afraid I'll walk off with it
