A Dj mate of mine told me aout Shazam on Sunday night.... If your in a shop and you hear a song you like but not sure who its by, or a tv advert comes on and you like the song and think ,thats good , who`s it by? Or even in the car, a song comes on the radio.

Then Shazam it!!! Simply dial 2580 on your mobile, (middle 4 numbers on the key pad) then press send as if you were to call 2580, put the phone near the speaker for 10 second ish (enough time for the software to recognise the song) hang up, then in a couple of seconds later you`ll get a text message from Shazam of what the song is....

Price wise am told its 30p, don`t quote me on that though as I have a contract and note had the bill yet... My mate is pay and go and says its 30p..

Try it...

Shazam You buy music from i tune, napter etc from their site.

I've used Shazam a lot, they have been around for a few years. If it can't work out what the song is it should text you saying "We can't work that one out"...

The last 10ish times I've tried to use the service it's not even acknowledged my call. No text to say whether it's recognised the song or not. A wasted text message every time. You are still charged by your provider even if it doesn't work.

I emailed them and they weren't very helpful offering me a few free "tags" as they call them, as compensation. But when I tried to use the service again it still didn't work.

I've used it quite a few times and it's pretty good, been stumped a couple of times. I thought it was 50 pence for a correct hit, free if it doesn't detect it.

Yeah you still pay your operator fee though for the call.

Until today the only "Shazam" I was aware of is a 1960's track from Duane Eddy.

More than likely, since I remember it from when it was issued!

You weren't with Derek & myself, Steve, when we saw Duane live at the Tottenham Royal. We actually had coffee with him after the show and a long chat about music.

And, boy, was that fellow tall!

I heard of it a couple of years back. Back then, I think that it only worked on O2 / Cellnet phones.

Back then, it hated pitch shifting eg: the track being played faster, or slower than 0.0% - it also needed to be very close to speakers playing very loud music. Effects also used to throw it - eg: Add a flanger into the mix and Shazam shruged its shoulders.

This could explain why Shazam fairs better when a nice safe radio play, or in-shop/in-house "radio" station is playing it, at a nice, safe 0.0%.

I've not tried it for at least 2 years - if not more - maybe they've adapted it to look for play speed adjustments etc.
