Also its polite to ask the DJ who you where 'helping' if you can take photos at his gig then rather passing them off as your own!

I take a camera but seldom have the time to take photos, without being disrespectful how on earth do you find time to take pictures when you working? - The impression of a DJ introducing the first dance with mic in one hand and a camera in another is more cheesier then the macarena IMHO!
If you have someone else go out front and do it then thats better but your being paid to present music not go off taking pics for your scrapbook.
I use a pc for music otsav.. So I announce the first dance then pop out front with my camera. its a propper D-SLR mind not a compact and take a few shots of the B&G it takes seconds to do. Then back behind desk quick edit and there up on the screen usually as the first dance ends....
This has proved a great success for me and has gained me lots of referals..... I then upload there pics to my web site on there own page for them to download, and invite there friends and family to do the same. This again has increased traffic to my site and landed me some enquiries....
Also with each extra page I publish I give it an individual google friendly title so increasing my chances of being viewed when keywords are used...
Its all done tastefully and I have not had a problem as yet.. Infact people have started asking me to take group shots for the album etc....
just as an idea I also make up slides like the one below (this is just a mock up and names ect are not correct)
