A word of warning... fear.gif avoid playing Guy Lombardo's version of Auld Lang Syne (disc 3: Track 5) at all costs...its truely awful scared.gif - it sounds like the music that a Tom & Jerry cartoon would use in the background, at the end where a New Years Eve Peace Truce is being "shaked" upon, by the feline and rodent mortal enemies...

Only play it at 11:59:59 on New Years Eve IF you've got a audience of old duffers who have only managed to make it past their normal 7pm bedtimes by taking double doses of Sanatogen vitamins and adding go-faster stripes to their zimmer frames... sleep1.gif

It may sound a bit of a contradiction after my Now 56 post, in that I personally think the Now 56 is a reasonable spend of £13 for what will turn out a few haven't gots and a set of duplicates, but after looking at this tracklisting, I think I have most of the tracks at least once and probably a few more times in the case of Dancing Queen, Macarena, Hey Baby etc..
For seasoned pros this is a waste of £13, in my opinion...

PS.. Jive Bunny, the reason I don't play mixes, punters hate them!!

Hmmm have to agree to disagree here, ok DON't play Jive Bunny agreed punters hate it...............but don't play mixes????? Punters love - em and if you're a mixing jock the best compliment you could get is "Where can I buy that mix" surely? your answer "I mixed it myself" with big smile makes you a hero!

Ok don't play mixes all night for sure, but I think they are a valuable addition to out armoury!

Spin,

My major reason for saying that I don't play mixes is that the crowds that I play to are primarily of the 25plus group. Here in good old Norfolk, the Jive Bunny type mix is met upon with total disgust by the average crowd and will more likely than not clear the dancefloor. I have mentioned previously that I once played the Stars-on-45 Abba mix and nearly got lynched for it!
I agree that there are some reasonable mashed up mixes available, Kylie/Blue Monday , Liberty X/Richard X, but the mainstream available stuff on DMC and Mastermix are in my opinion just pap! Why play only 1 minute of a song when the people want to hear the whole of one.

Nail on the head Spinko...why play 1 minute of a song, when the public want to hear all of it?

This is where the distinction of Mix, Minimix, and Megamix would probably be useful. They all just differ by how much of each song you get within the 4~8 minutes of the track. EG: A mix (or remix) might have just one or two songs, each lasting about 3 minutes in a 6 minute track, whereas with Jive Bunny (c'mon) you might get 10 tracks in 3 minutes.

I'd agree that audiences are about ready to lynch a DJ if they just get dancing/singing to one particular track, only to find that some other track suddenly takes over. The Grease Megamix is a classic example of this...people just get "going" to singing along with a good fast bit of the mix, and it suddenly crashes down to "Summer nights"...the sharp looks and disappointed sighs are all too evident, only the fact that Summer nights is good too, seems to stop them sauntering off back to their seats.

One idea however, is to lengthen the tracks within the megamixes, thereby giving the audience more of each track. Simply mix out of the megamix, into the original, and then back into the megamix after a couple of minutes, to take advantage of the mixpoint provided by the megamix.
