When your loading the broom broom - what can you fit in?
Renault Scenic:
1 TV monitor, 1 Karaoke player, 1 DVD player, 4x EV speakers, 1 QSC amp, 1 peavey amp, 4x speaker poles, 4x fx lights, DJ multi stand and 6ft folding front screen and overhead cross-bar, 2x Tripods & T bars, 2x quickloc stands, Pioneer Decks, Laptop Decks, 2xshoulder leads bags, 3 x Karaoke Stands, 2x mic stands, 8 cd folders of various sizes, [B]6 Karaoke folders and a foldaway table.1 Passenger seat
Ford Escort:
All the above except the karaoke gear and minus 2 EV's and 2x poles.
No passenger room.
If I'm not doing Karaoke, I can fit in all the EV's!
There is no possible room for anything else - not even a mouse!
I did, however, have to up-rate the rear suspension after 2 weeks use!
I would like to have a trailor but have no available room for storage. A transit would be nice, but can not currently afford!!!!

In my Mazda 626 i get 2 x 15" speakers, speaker stands, 2 CDJ500s, 3 Chameleons, 1 Galactic Moon, 2 Wildmoons, DJ Stand, couple more lights, 4 cases of CDs, 2 Amps, 2 bags of leads etc etc....
There is a knack.... And if you get one bit wrong (specially at the end of the gig) its all change...... And I REALLY hate it when that happens.....

I used to follow this route of packing in motors.............. but then 10 yrs ago I discovered Tow - A - Van the answer to my prayers........... no tax, no MOT, no depreciation. Easily stored (Well it was when I hung my up and over garage door on side hinges)
Trouble is now I've filled that aswell!! So many light screens!

I have a White Daihatsu Hi Jet, yes I know I look like a traveller but it's a 1 litre engine, cheap on Road tax, fuel and insurance.
For the usual gigs, when I pack it in I can fit comfortably,
4 Packing Cases carrying lighting, etc, each case around 3' x 2' x 2'
2 DB Technologies Opera Powered Speakers
2 Mobil Tech Wind Up stands in carry boxes
3 ladder lengths, 2 x 2m and 1 x 1m
2 speaker stands
1 microphone stand
CD/Mixer Case 2U x 6U x 6U
2 Light Screens 2' 6" square
1 FAL Rainbow light box
3 x 180 CD Cases
Tool box
Pro-el Deck stand
and still room for more....

Yep I'm with Spin on this 1
I couldn't live without my trailer

Although my trailer is bigger than most tow-a-van trailers
It's about 10 or 11ft long, about 3ft wide and 6 ft high inside, about the same amount of space as a tranny van so I can get tons of gear in there. When my full setup is loaded in there it takes up about 2 thirds of the space on the floor.
This includes: 4x 12" speakers, Amp, cd player and mixer, 6ft deck stand an goal post thingy, CD case, 2 cables boxes, 7x light screens, a pair of FAL 3 bulb light sequencers that plug into bulgin controller, scrolling message display, 3 chauvet micro-scans, 2 chauvet micro-barrlels and some other lights that don't have names oh yeah and a fog machine.
Erm...
I can't remember everything else.

Methinks your math is letting you down 10 x 6 x 3 = 180 cu ft
My small tow a van (twin axle) is 8 x 5 x 6 = 240 cu ft and is filled front to back to within a foot of the roof!!!

Well if you want to go the brand new route look here
Tow A VansBrand new you would be looking at the £2000+ mark for a twin axle of a decent size however I paid £1000 second - hand for mine about ten years ago and it is still probably worth £800 to £900 even now!

Howdy!
On the subject of cars etc something came up tonight and I just wondered if anyone knows...
On the way home from tonights gig, I had to put some diesel in the car - So pulled into service station, put some in, paid for it, but on the way back to the car I realised that it was sitting VERY low on its back wheels.
Is there a legal limit? I know that some vans cannot be over a certain weight - is this the same for all vehicles or????
Just worried me coz noone likes a pull over by the boys in blue!!
Steve

Hi, Ive never heard of a weight limit for all kinds of cars that you cant exceed...as long as your tyres aren't warming the arches then you I think you should be ok!
Tbh, I think if you did get stopped it would be more the way you packed your car, ie stuff doesnt fly across the boot when you turn a corner...if everything is secure then it shouldnt really be regarded as anything different from joe public moving a load of their personal effects in thier car...
Obviously this would invalidate your PLG insurance policy!

Yeah thats what I meant...I think this is the key factor here. As long as your car is well packed as mentioned before business insurance is vital. If you were stopped this would be crucial...wouldn't it???

I think its about the same space inside as a tranny van
I paid £500 for it. It needs a nice lick of paint on the out side as you can see but it is all boarded and carpeted out inside, heater and thermostat too! and it tows like a dream

. Looks good in the dark, Its got 'fairy' lights at the front (white) and back (red) when the car headlites r on.
In my opinion it was a good buy for 500 squid

I'm no good at maths either but I must be going blind because I can't see your pictures. Has someone removed them?

Ok I thnk that I have sorted out the problem with the invsible pictures
I have been well informed by Chris P that 'Geocities', who I had uploaded my pictures to, do not allow, 'hot linking' (or something like that) which means that my pictures didn't display even tho the image address was that of the uplaoded image
So... I have now uploaded them to a new webspace provider and hopefully they are 'seeable' now. lol
Please inform me if these pictures are still not working. I can see them but then again I could when they were hosted by Geocities for some reason
