Hey!

I was wondering, how do DJs display messages to the dancers on screens? Is this done, simply by having the image on a laptop and having external screens?

in my case yes, that's pretty much it.
I also use Mediamonkey visuals with messages and jpgs etc.
2 external screens through a splitter running as extended desktop in xp.

I'm posh, I do messages with my lasers and Pangolin software.

Mediamonkey is just a media player but you can do some fancy stuff with the milkdrop plugin. Often I don't play music from the laptop, but I leave a track running so that the visuals keep going. They are not sync'd to the music but it isn't noticable.
