Weather I should Play Slow Songs or Rap, or Hip-Hop or Pop of Fast Beats or what! How can I adjudge from the age group of People as to which songs they would like to dance on! Please guide me thoroughly on this Matter!

Quite sketchy information you've provided so quite difficult to advise. I know its common advice but knowing what to play and when can only come from experience. Either try and attend gigs of more experienced Dj's or learn the very hard way!

What to play and when can and will depend on a number of the following:

1.type of occasion
2.venue, eg a birthday in a night club v's a top (or most!) hotels
3.age group of function organisers
4.organisers (eg bride and groom!) taste of music (that will sometimes sort the FULL night out for you reading their list of favourites!)
5.age range present on the evening
6.the time you have got to play at a function
7.what music has worked well so far in the evening
8.etc etc

Can you provide any more info

Regards

I will just say there is no formular for playing the right songs because you are dealing with humans and not robots so im afraid you can only learn from experiance it the only way i still get surprised now when say i might dj a 70 thinking she will just want all old music and the birthday girl will come up and ask me for some paul van dyke and rave away to it when i play it on the other hand i might do a 18th thinking they will all want modern music and they will wany 70s i could go on forever with examples on how people surprise me while im djing but the only thing you can do is not plan to far ahead and just watch peoples reactions and adjust the music acordingly. sorry but i can't help you more than that.

most people have an intense interest in modern music between the ages of 14 and 20, so i keep a list of the most popular songs from each year for the last 50 years,i try and judge the ages of my guests and then find something from a suitable year.It doesnt always work but it does most of the time.
