hi more questions.
if i have my powered cabs straight from my mixer and i want to run passive bass bins what is the best way to wire it all up?
can i feed my cabs as usual then use the thruput to fire an amp for the bins.
or do i need to run the bins first then send a signal to the active cabs?
or can i use the booth output on the mixer to feed an amp for the bins.
also do i still need to use a xover if i am just running bins from an amp or will they just use the signal they need to use?
i do not want the actives to lose their bass signal as they are pretty awesome anyway with the bass i just want to be able to reinforce it using the bins.
Any of the above three will work. How it will work will depend on the make and model of the speakers. Some bass bins send a full frequency signal to the tops where others will have a hi pass filter that will just send the mids and highs. Some active tops will have a low cut switch so you can cut the low frequencies.
You could also use a throughput connection from the mixer to the bass bin amp then to the active tops.
The advantage of an active crossover is that you can set the crossover frequency. Cutting the low frequency to the tops means they won't be working so hard (the low frequencies consume a bigger proportion of the power) which can make them sound better and will also allow them to play louder as there will be more power available for the mid/high frequencies.
