Hey again everyone!

Could someone be so kind as to help me to figure out how to mix together two songs (or a sample and beat) of different tempos using Acid or Cooledit software??

Thanks heaps in advance!
Dukesy
Ok - a general rule - always refer to the help section in any program if it has one!!!

If you have a song like Two Can Play That Game, Bobby Brown, the BPM is roughly 121-122 BPM.
Now Take a similar BPM tune (121-122 BPM) like, say, Best Things In Life Are Free.

The BPMs Will not match exactly - and most 'time stretching software' edit applications will only work well with 8 beats to the bar, for a good quality re-sample.
Then, imagine that you have to seperate the whole part you are mixing into 8 beats to the bar sections.....like cutting a piece of tape into equal lengths, 8 cms long!!!!!
Using this analagy, we are going to stretch the 'cut' pieces to match beat for beat the Master Track.

That's one way of explaining the theory.

However, if you could 'time stretch' the Whole song without 'cutting' it up, then you will need to know the exact tempo of the track you are going to manipulate - in order to enter the 'Source' Tempo, and the 'Destination' Tempo. (The Destination Tempo being the Master Tracks Tempo).

Making sense so far.....

Plan your mix roughly in your mind. If it's going to have lots of sample stabs and effects - consider getting a dedicated software program with automatic BPM manipulation and stretch facilitys like Fruity Loops Pro, but use Cooledit to Compress, master edit or add effects you don't have with Fruity.
Making 'choons' in Fruity is fun, easy, but most of all, allows you to produce your track in the fraction of the time it would take in Cooledit. In essence - Fruity is quicker and more powerful to play with - including VSTi effects and Fruity effects to use / download.
Fruity employs an excellent 'scratch' effect that you can use in your production mix, and will accept any size sample as long as your PC's memory can handle it!

Cubase 5 is also a very well featured audio (midi) manipulator, but Sonar gives it a run for it's money.

ProTools is the high-end industry style package for midi sequence arrangement, but can produce an album (check the credits on the Queen Made In Heaven Album).

Producers and artists will spend hours, days or weeks getting the right sound for the right note and interpretation - and will experiment as they go along.

Like many of todays software - you can swap or drag & drop info from one package to another.
The same goes for some music programs.

Hope that helps a little.
