I have 4 mad colours and 2 mad spins, also a raving mad controller. Does anyone use this? Is it any good?
What is the best way to operate it and what do the dip switches need to be on? I have read the manual but doesn`t make much sence to me

.
Hope someone else uses it and can advise..
Thanks in advance.

Steve, ignoring the urge to say "all of it"... what part(s) of the manual doesnt/dont make sense.
Perhaps those parts will make sense to us collectively, and give you enough pieces.
Dip switch wise...from other Range/make/model dedicated DMX controllers they usually want you to set the controller to a particular DMX channel - for example, the same as the first channel of the first DMX light in your line of DMX lights...so... for wild example.
Mad colour 1 = DMX channels 100 to 104 (5 channels)
Mad colour 2 = DMX channels 105 to 109 (5 channels)
Mad colour 3 = DMX channels 110 to 114 (5 channels)
Mad colour 4 = DMX channels 115 to 119 (5 channels)
Mad Spin 1 = DMX 120 to 125 (6 channels)
Mad Spin 2 = DMX 126 to 131 (6 channels)
So...set the dip switches on the controller to a value of 100 (so it knows where to find the first channel)
But... other controllers also want dip switches set in certain ways, so you have say...dip switch 10 set to "ON" if there are Mad Spins in the system, dip switch 11 set to "ON" if there are Mad Colours in the system and so on. Definately need the manual. Type some bits of it up, so we can have a go.

If you're using just the raving mad controller, you can pretty much ignore the DIP switches on the controller itself, these are for setting the slave address if it's commanded in master-slave mode from a bigger DMX desk.
The fixtures have unique addresses when used with this controller, the owner's manual for the actual light effects you want to connect will tell you what to set; they're different for each model. The DMX values from the controller are 'fixed' and so will only control Abstract madFX units.
But it says all this in the manual anyway!!

Thanks chaps. I have spent most of the day pre-wiring a t bar with 2 spins and 2 colours. I have had a play with the controller and come to the conclusion the dip switches need to be all off (as Mr Edwards states).
Its a pretty good piece of dmx kit which like most, doesn`t need programming. Also has buttons saying spins, colours, scans and magicians. Just press the button and the prefered head comes on/off. Good how it knows which is which.
Thanks Gary for the addresses.
