I just purchased some used Martin Acrobats.

Turned them on for the first time and thought......bit dull for a 250w lighting effect.....and also very disapointed what with it being Martin I expected more.
Although I remembered that the seller told me that they had been on the roof of a nightclub for a while so might need a clean.

So I opened them up and......
Well lets just say they were plastered, the dust on the inside of the main top optic lens was thick with grime, if it had been large enough I could have wrote my name with my finger in the muck!

So I wiped the inside of that, then used windowlene on both sides of the lens and also the mirrors on the barrel. And again on the mirror dish inside the light.
I then used a combination of a hoover, cotton bud, and duster and cleaned the junk out of everywhere I could see. paying special attention to the gobo wheel with the cotton bud and hoover.

Took me a long time to do each one....but the difference is stunning!

Superb lighting effect and NOW as bright as they should be!

So thats what I did anyway, worked for me :o)

Air dusters are pretty hand things to use for the larger build ups of dust. Especially if you use a smoke machine and it starts to coat it all. Good old Isopropyl Alcohol is the best cleaner to use as it evaperates after use so no residue. Using a cotton bud as previously mentioned is very handy for cleaning fans and those hard to reach places. Soak it in IPA and then give quick wipe. You may find after the dust is removed it may be quieter as well as the dust can create blowing noises from fans etc.

Go to your local garage & use the air line to blast out the dirt/dust take a old paint brush with you as well for those hard to reach corners
For the lens/ mirror & colour wheels ect i use alco wipes

I use a soft paintbrush in conjunction with the vacuum cleaner, then any dichroics and lenses are cleaned with damp cloth and polished with a dry one. I dont squirt anything chemical inside.
