Just a basic question for Numark D2 owners.
We all probably have different ways of organising the folders but how do you do yours for easy access?
Bellow are a couple of pick on how I do mine.
Pick of main categories
Pick of the "Artist with own files" folder this is for artist that have quite a few chart entries etc. I also have a separate similar folder for Rock, Rock n Roll etc. I just find it easy to find particular artist and tracks without the need to search.

By decades - 00's, 90's, 80's etc. and Genres - Dance, Indie, Soul & Groove, Ratpack etc. Plus special occasions - Janet & John's Wedding, Michael's 40th etc.

To be honest I don't. I just leave all music in one folder and use string search to find song I want. As the unit has library functiopn anyway I can still search by artist or track or just browse files as normal.

I would assume that I do it much the same way as most others:
50s - 00s: (Individually) Which would be pop
Genres: Music Hall, Mod. Rock, RnR, Rockabilly, Jewish, Nostalgia, Reggae, Blues, Heavy, Punk etc.
Specific Date Folders for 1-off playlists

It has taken me around 8/9 attempts to find a folder system that I am happy with. I have round about 25 folders equating to approximately eight thousand tracks from jingles to latest Pro disc to party action etc. Its all in a system I can understand. The only drawback is the time a search takes with BOTH decks playing at the same time. This has happened since the second firmware update (even though we were told that 1.9 would be fast)

So, if you were to ask the D2 to list you all of the tracks that you had by say...Madonna, how long would it take to show you the resulting (say) dozen tracks?.

On mine that takes a couple of seconds.

Takes a couple of seconds on mine as well since version 1.9 . Although I only have about 10,000 songs on my drive.

I have a 7" 45 rpm copy of Sky High by Jigsaw, which got to number 9 in 1975.

Fair enough but as this is a folder I'm assuming that it contains a collection of tunes under the genre 'SKYHIGH'

Good point. I will try this tomorrow. I usually have a brain storm half way through a song and start searching. Sometimes it takes around 35-40 seconds to find a single track BUT I am searching the whole libary artists albums etc NOT just the song title (probably what I'm doing wrong)
Oh yeah and when I go "BACK" the D2 takes ages to show the folders again???

Sounds like you are using a fat32 formatted drive. I tried that once but ifound it to slow so switched to an ntfs drive . Now a string search gives results in less than 4 seconds.

Whilst NTFS will work with the D2, FAT32 is recommended.

Agreed, for all the increasingly popular Hard Drive Controllers currently out there (which is pretty much all of them, over Windows).
With Huuuuuge files (eg: video) then NTFS has a tiny advantage over how it is filed/treated/stored - but the owners of the file format/rights to NTFS wont let other manufacturers use the writing/saving side of NTFS...(well, they will but £,£££,£££'s)... with FAT and FAT32, they are now public domain (more or less) - so hard drive controllers can save data to the drive - such as Memo Points, Playlists, etc.

Which is what I would have posted, but I couldn't remember it!

True I'm FAT32. Only reason is to build a crate

Main problem with fat32 is that you have to split large file directories up or the speed slows down considerably. Also the fact that vista won't format in fat32 anymore doesnt help over all.
