Microphone setup for a Laptop Mobile DIsco Rig - What equipment do you guys generally use and how is it integrated into your system?

I use the following:
Macbook Pro
Vestax-VCI100 mixer
Native Instruments Audio Kontrol 1
and a Kam KWM1920 Twin VHF Radio Microphone System which plugs directly into the Audio Kontrol sound card

The kam microphone system was £80 therfore not the cheapest thing on the market however i am still not
happy with the sound of it (no bass and sounds generally tinny and cheap) - It plugs directly into the NI Audio Kontrol.

Cheers

Have you tried connecting the mic into the mixer rather than your Audiokontrol interface?
Just a thought.

The KAM's are pretty much at the bottom of the market but should still give reasonable results, I dont have any experience of the sound quality of the mic channel on the Native unit.

I have used a £38 sound lab mic for over two years and just plug it str8 into the mixing desk and had no problems

The problem is the Vestax mixer has only 1 input - and thats USB to the computer!

Ah, I see. This isnt actually a mixer then, is it! It's an external midi-controller which has access to your laptop application.

I'm surprised it doesnt have some kind of mic input but maybe a seperate mixer in between your laptop and sound system would be better?

Can I recommend the following

IPB Image

It has two mic inputs, with the choice of jack and XLR and with bass, middle and treble on both and two stereo inputs, again with bass, middle and treble. It also has aux send and return, although you can use the return as an additional input if required, as well as phono input and output. I used this for 18 months with my laptop and never had an issue.

For £40, you can't go wrong.

Cheerws bigMCben - i have just purchased one of these and set it up last night, seems to work fine and good that i can change the bass, treble etc.
