Full Version: What's Your Style?

I was thinking about this a little earlier (far too much time on my hands) and I wondered what sort of styles other DJs adopt for your average "Party" type disco. I've heard DJs who change the genre of music with virtually every song and yet I've also heard DJs who wallop the hell out of one particular genre before reluctantly switching over to another. I personally "aim" to play 3 songs from one genre and then change it, unless of course that particular genre is going down well and I have plenty of relevant ace tunes up my sleeve.

I guess this question doesn't apply too much to the more genre-specific DJs but I would be extremely interested to hear how other party DJs approach this subject.

I normally play "sets" of 3 or 4, varying it if something is going well. If the floor starts to flag (as you often get when it's rather warm) I change to a softer sound, give them time for a drink, toilet break, whatever, before cranking up the tempo again.

Early evening I might play more in a set, just depends on the audience reaction.

Depends on:
- reaction
- no of requests I have
- range of requests
- what mood I'm in

Sometimes I do sets of 10/15 mins, sometimes I do mad jumps from this to that. It's all just seeing what feels right at the time.
