Hi
By coincidene i have 2 teenage parties over the next two weeks -

The first one seems ok as she just wants chart music..

The second one is expecting an R&b/Rap fest!! I spoke to the young girl to discuss the music she wants playing and it was dizzie rascal, Timberlake, Beyonce and loads of other similar tracks...

Personally this is the music i hate and have the least knowledge of, however i am not the customer and i can get hold of anything she want's -

Does anyone have any tips or advice how to pull this off??

Cheers
Steve

Me personally wouldn't have taken a gig knowing i have little knowledge of that particular music etc

Has she forwarded any sort of list to you?

If you can "get anything she wants", do that.
I would expect though that her friends may well be asking for different material.

My advice is to take everything along, including oldies, and adjust to suit the crowd as well as her.

Sometimes these teenzillas have their own mistaken idea of what everyone else in the world wants to hear at a disco.

Timbaland and Akon have owned the charts for the last couple of years, get all their hits (and numerous collaborations) and you'll be sweet.

Just work your way through the radio 1 and 1xtra play lists and you will be fine....

it 90% Rap/RnB anyway

I would think that these two partys are going to be fairly similar.......
When teenagers say "chart" music they are normally talking about the likes of dizzee rascal, timbaland, beyonce anyway.......and of course the essential Soulja Boy LOL

Just ask her for a long list of artists and tracks to play and stick to it, cant really go wrong then.

I always make sure I have a printed copy of the top 40 and the radio playlist to hand for when I am doing a younger persons function.

On top of whats already been mentioned, throw in:

Timbaland
H Two O
Rihanna
Destinys Child
Cascada
Girls Aloud
Sugababes

etc etc

Plus as the night wears on throw some general cheese/party stuff in, you'll be surprised as to how it goes down lol

oh yes i have the soulja boy track ready to go....

I did a 9-10 yr old party a few weeks back - i had loads of requests for soulja boy, put it on - the kids went wild and loved it then the Dad came up to me and asked what this crap was and gave me the filthiest look and told me to put something else on.... you can;t win..

LOL......not just me thats happened too then..........
I would just smile, nod, agree with his point of view on soulja boy and maybe politely point out that the kids love it and its their party, so if you dont like it you can allways stand in the car park.......then tell him that I would be joining him in said car park coz I cant stand it either LOL

Guys, thanks for the responses and advice...

Just got back from the gig and it was a big success!
I played the requested r&b & hip hop mixed with other chart tracks for the first 45 minutes
.... and then...
...
......
.........
I had a request for the Cha Cha Slide, put it on and the place errupted!! they all loved it!
The rest of the night was easy - Wham, Spice Girls, Steps and even the Macarena
not forgetting Soulja boy which i tried to avoid but after 2 requests with 20 mins to go i had to give in..

Cheers
