Full Version: If You Do Ceremonies

I've been doing ceremonies for some time now and most of them just require a few classical tunes.

For the occasional one though they have a Minister at the venue (something else that's becoming more popular) and in these cases they are allowed to have hymns.

Finding organ hymn music (without choirs) is not that easy but I have found this site where MP3s can be purchased at 99p each - http://www.cul.co.uk/music/hymncds.htm

I actually first used them last year but lost the URL until now (I need them again & still have credit with them).

As with anything new there's a steep learning curve at the beginning. The 1st time I played one I found that the congregation were singing at a slower tempo so I had to slow it down (by 10%). The other thing to watch for is that you have enough verses of music. On the site mentioned the number of verses is given in brackets at the end of the title.

Apart from that there's nothing untoward that a DJ can't handle - just wait for the vicars cue and hit play, follow the hymn from the order of service and fade it at the end smile.gif

Why not go the whole hog and perform the actual ceremony as well? Now that's a complete wedding package!!!

Dearly Beloved, we are .....................................

Paul, so playing hymns, is this in the church, thus making the organist redundant??? I only ask because you are not allowed to have "religious" music at a civil cermony. Although putting together a CD might be useful in the future. I know it's the big thing over the pond for the DJ's to "buy" a docturite (sp) and then offer the "whole" package. I wonder if next they will become gynocologists so that they can deliver the first born.

Just out of curiosity, what is 'religious' music and who says it can't be played at a civil cremony and is this only applicable in England?

Would Jesus and Mary Chain be allowed??? amen.gif
mikeee
Under UK law, at a civil ceremony you can not play music that is used for religious purposes or has relious conaltations (sp), so you can forget "A Bide With Me" , "Jesus He Loves You" and probably "Heaven Is A Place On Earth". The registar, so I'm told, will ask for a list of ceremony music, and will tell you if It's OK to use.

I refer the honourable gentleman to my 1st post

So it's at the venue rather than a church and because a minister of religion is conducting the service hymns are allowed. smile.gif

You are correct Mike that if the service is conducted by a civil registrar then religious music is not permitted but times they are a-changing.
