I was discussing this with a singer recently and we were trying to work out which Kylie tracks are the best ones for getting people dancing. We both agreed that her version of the Locomotion doesn't seem to work as well as you think it's going to. She felt that her more modern tracks work better than the old ones. What do you think?

I know that, by law, everyone has to like poor Kylie. But I don't. And I'm glad to say I rarely, if ever, get any requests for her stuff. Can't say she's ever been a floorfiller for me either.

Depends on the set

80's Hand on your heart/I should be so lucky
90's What do I have to do
00's I believe in you/ Spinning Around

Best plays

On a Night Like this/ Kids
4zzz
Better The Devil You Know Went down well at a 40th the other week.

Spinning around
On A night like this
Can't Get You Outta My Head

These sometimes go ok depends on crowd.

Me personally like the one she did with Nick Cave Where The Wild Roses Grow.
But still waiting to play at function.
Will probably wait a long time.

Corabar Steve
"2 Hearts" & "Where the wild roses grow" for me, but there not exactly disco fodder.
NRG Roadshow
I dont play Kylie very often....

But if I do I would probably go for "better the devil you know" just because its one of my personal favorites of hers.

Interesting that generally it's her newer material that seems to do well, but saying that no one seems to feel her music from a disco point of view, is that popular. I saw her in concert earlier this year and she was amazing. Ok yeah, she does sing pop, but she does it really well. Maybe the energy she creates live doesn't come across on her records.

I like "Better The Devil You Know" too. I like her new record "Two Hearts " as well but wondered if it were too slow to get people dancing.

One of the first discos I did I put on this Kylie megamix thing which I stupidly thought was quite cool, and it cleared the floor. Later on someone asked me for "Especially For You" with Jason Donovan, and I was expecting everyone to throw beeer cans at me but everyone got up and danced and sung along to it. Weird. wacko.gif

The art here is really to know what is and isn't popular. The early PWL releases (1988-1992) are not quite so popular. However, I kind the following pre 1992 worthwhile

Better the Devil You Know - Still requjested and very popular (probably because of Steps covered it)
I should be so lucky - It's on most 80's albums. Requested sometimes
Especially for you - A bit of a cult slow number, considered naff at the time but ok now

Other stuff only be request.

Although the locomotion is acceptable, it's not as popular as Little Eva. Nothing wrong in playing it though.

The megamix you mentioned is a 'floor clearer' I have some of these, and I think are are very good, but not suitable for a general function unless it's an 80's style night.

Thats entertainment
"Cant get you out of my head" or "Spining around" always works for me
My personal favorite is "Confide in me" although not a big favorite with others, got to love the video to it though

Has anyone started playing Kylie's "Wow" yet? I'm desperate to give it a spin and follow it with Madonna's "Holiday" as they both have the same feel. Ok maybe desperate is too strong a word but I just think it could be cool. kid.gif

Just been doing a bit of housekeeping (or maybe I'm just an anorak) but my most requested Kylie record over the last two years is......

Locomotion!
