Hi

A few weeks ago I was doing a small outside kids party using my smaller (300watt) speakers.

Halfway through the disco, suddenly the bass subs on both speakers cut out leaving just the peizos and the small treble speakers working?! wacko.gif

They were both distorting a bit before cutting out as I was playing pretty load but I thought it was a bit strange both speakers cutting out a the same time. Luckily I had my slightly bigger pair of speakers in the van so everything was ok and It didnt take me long 2 get going again rolleyes.gif

I am wondering whether it is possible to blow two subs at exactly the same time and even if I did blow them surely there would be some sound out of them even if it was muffled/distorted

I spoke to a DJ that I sometimes work with about it and he said that they may be a kind of cut out swich inside of them that cuts them out if they start distorting too much to save the sub? huh.gif

I dunno. I havent looked inside of them yet cos i havent had the time but I want to get them sorted because when im doing a big show I sometimes use 4 speakers for extra power.

Any help on what could be the cause of the speaker cutting out would be much apreciated.

You've blown them. Try gently pressing the front of the cone in and if it feels stiff or scratchy and they don't move freely then you've blown them and time to invest in some new cones unfortunately.

Distortion is a warning - HEED IT, because it usually means that your amplifier is badly clipping or your speakers are being overloaded. Either sceanrio usually results in a repair following.

The clip lights or peak leds on your Amplifier (if fitted) are red for a reason smile.gif if they light frequently you are pushing your Amplifier too hard and overloading it. Distortion is the biggest killer of speakers followed by overloading and it sounds to me that you've done both. 533.gif

Yes - if both were running & distorting then it is possible

Wishful thinking - protection is sometimes fitted to delicate HF units in the form of a filament lamp or resetable fuse but I doubt you'd find that fitted to a pair of cheapish speakers and almost never on the Bass Drivers.

Put it down to inexperience and learn from your mistakes!.
