The only packs I've ever bought was a Sing to the world x3 purely to replace some other damaged tracks priced at £30.
There are however plenty of packs out there, ie: EK 8 disc's @ £125, Zoom 5 disc's @ £99, Music maestro 10 disc's @ £60.
If your only just starting out then it may be better for you to buy packs with the most popular requested tracks on or either look at buying them second hand there's plenty on Ebay and I think Ian has some 2nd hand from his own collection knocking about.
Other than packs, there's the EZH range at £12.99, Sunfly @ £23 with SF most wanted free, Pocket songs @ £20, or Sound choice from £14 - £20.
There's also a new range out starting @ £11 called Mr Entertainer but I have no knowledge of these disc's preformance.

Where are you Scotty? I'm in London so my prices might vary from yours, But I have a set hourly rate , based on a minium 2 hour booking, mid week booking are always cheaper from weekends, so if I go out on Saturday and do a 3 hour karaoke I'm going to charge you £225 maybe more....But I get it! biggrin.gif

I know a little about karaoke,

Players there are some exceelnt one that will play CDG, VCD & DVD's so you will have the versatility to play them all.

Paula covered everything regarding the discs, most people still prefer the CDG style.

The Citronic 10:4DSP or Soundlab Fission are both good mixers for Karaoke use since they both have Digital Effects / Echo built in

The RSQ CDG Player is a good option as well

Behringer eurotrax mixer and the jvc , cdg & vcd player

If you already have your cd player it may be possible to get a converter to read the graphics on a cdg.
Also you can get a small mic mixer which could possibly run along side your main mixer (if the main on has a send and return)
I use this kind of set up with my main gear - but not commercially just for fun at home - not sure if this makes sense as it may be just as cheap to buy seperate gear - any comments from the experts??? PLEASE notworthy.gif

Easy karaoke discs are really good for the latest chart songs. We pay around £11 a disc every four weeks.

If you want to get a really good "curent" collection going, buy all the EZH discs, I've got them all and think they are great.
Get a couple of the "party pack" style collections and you'll get loads of the older most requested tracks. The EK Essential Party Pack one is really good for old new stuff - last 5 years or so.

Player wise the RSQ/JVC machine won't let you down, it's the exact same thing.

If your setting it up as a dedicated karaoke setup get a Behringer UB1832FX, it's cost effective and gives you plenty of scope.

I'm using the Behringer above and a PC setup - the software just now is superb but there developing a new payer just now thats going to be as good as MTU's hoster software at a fraction of the cost!!

I dont do much karaoke myself but a friend of mine does. He uses Cavs players for the songs, hard drive based units bit like an mp3 player but for cdg. All the discs he buys are ripped onto the unit and stored on its hard drive. Saves trying to find discs in wallets (the tracks are accessed by typing in a 4 digit code) and carrying round hundreds of expensive discs! The units are expensive but work really well and make life so much easier when doing the night.

For mixers he uses Dynacord and Studiomaster Spirit powered desks. Again expesnsive, but really good sound quality. I have used them before and if you can afford it would reccomend them to anyone!
