Cut off the long intro to Queen's "Don't Stop Me Now" ?

Me personally, don't, its a nice sing along intro and it gives time for anyone sitting down to get up
Mattaious
I agree with Tony,

Never cut it off, I reckon itsa decent intro into a wkd song

But, what if people are already up on the floor dancing? Ok I can understand if people are sitting down, but does it stop the flow at all?

Not that I have noticed. If the intro to a track isn't very distinctive you can get people stopping and looking vacant until they recognise it and that can kill the floor but a well known track such as Don't Stop Me Now should be okay.

This song is normally played at a peak time during the evening, I never have played the intro, I bring it in with the word 'so don't stop me now' otherwise there is too much of a delay with people standing around. I tend to get applause by doin this.
Danno13
I only play the intro if I'm using it to build up from something slower. Otherwise, its just chopped in from "don't stop me now... don't stop me now, cos i'm having... " etc.

I'm a bit mean, I cut the beginning bit out, and start cutting out nearer the end when the music gets slower and bring in Living on a prayer or Chesney Hawkes - I am the one and only.

Is that being mean ?? lol

Their are some songs which should never ever be cut and should be played in full!!!

Don't stop me now IMO is deffo one of those tracks!
llcooljoe
I have to admit when I played McFly's version at this young teenage disco I recently did, they all seem to love singing along to the intro. The inflatables they all had, particularly the mics where they all did their best Freddie Mercury was quite a sight to see! Amazing how this song appeals to people from 70 to 7! kid.gif

It depends on the time of the evening. At 11.30pm I am only interested in retaining a full floor, hence the cut intro. Lots of songs are similar eg Whitney Houston - I Wanna Dance with Somebody, Mavericks - Dance the Night Away. I cut the intro on these as well.

At a childrens party though I would play the Queen intro.
C.S
I always cut it but i always cut most intros !
DJ Marky Marc
I only cut it if im droping a couple of verses into a party set and cuting out of it again..

most of the time i play the entire track bar the bit at the end so they can sing along..
Tonsk
I cut it....

I start it at "Coz I'm Havin A Good Time, Havin A Good Time", normally after Bon Jovi and Bryan Adams and just before I play Footloose into the outtro...

How long is the intro 15 seconds? lol

Personally I've never cut it short, the time that the "intro" is on gives people time to get up on the floor
NRG Roadshow
I normally play it as the absolute last track....
So the slow bit at the start just gets the people that are sitting down chance to get on the floor, and the people already on the floor just sing the intro at the tops of their voices, then start dancing again when it kicks in.........then at the end the slower outro gives me a chance to give it the "goodnight, safe journey home" patter....works for me.

Maybe I should try chopping it a bit at the start and sliding it into a set earlier on in the evening. Hmm....Might be worth a try anyway.

Whitney - I Wanna Dance with Somebody intro I do cut, start where she goes Whoooooo which is about 11 seconds into the track. Mavericks I cut about the first 5 seconds off.

15 seconds is long enough for everybody sit down
Thats entertainment
I normaly play this near the end of the night (friday nite in fact)
I some times talk on the mic at the intro, like "time at the bar" or "we have 3 more songs to go"

true Tony and I know the point which you are making, however, the intro is slow and at 11.30 i do like to keep the pace moving hence the ditched intro. If it was a 60th party or say a childrens party (Mcfly version) then I would play it. Just a preference really!
llcooljoe
Last night I had a bit of a lull, and only had a handful of people dancing, so I thought I'd play the whole song including the intro to see if it did get bums off seats, and have to admit it worked really well. By the time the intro was through, the foor was full again, I think if I'd gone straight into the fast bit they wouldn't have got up. So maybe it's one of those songs that works both ways. bigstar.gif

I definately must be missing the point lol cutting 5 seconds off a track?????

I have never had anyone sit down for Dont stop me now, personally i find that people are usually running from the bar to get on the floor and take they take great enjoyment from singing dont stop me now in almost a whisper before it kicks in.

What next cutting dirty dancing to the chorus? rolleyes.gif
