Hi all im a 21 year old student who wants to become a dj.

My first love was oldskool house and i bought a set of 1210s when i was 16 which i still have to this day.

I love all kinds of music and especially party music.
My family is a big irish family and over the years of going to party after party i realised i could do a better job in regards to the selecting of music. I may not be as good on the mic but surely i can learn that over time?

Anyway i am looking to set up once we get christmas out of the way so that i am ready to roll once more partys start happening after the the low january and febuary.

I will be using laptop.
I have a good idea of how much music i will need and am going to convert from cd to wav and install them on an external harddrive.
When ive got enough variety and selection of music thats when i will buy the last bits of my gear ie mackies and lights etc and sort out any other matters.

Anyway what is the most econmical way for me to build up the cd collection which will be later converted for laptop use?

Any suggestions please.

thank you shaun

Have a search for Jock In The Box box sets. Ebay for NOW series CD's. Some ex Juke Box sets available. Good time of year to pick up box sets of 60's 70's & 80's etc which places like Woolworths are selling as stocking fillers (but check they are original tracks). Bit late in the year for boot sales but if there are any around, you can sometimes pick up collection cheaply. Also have a rummage around charity shops. Ask on Freecycle if anyone has any old CD's they don't want.

Some of those sunday papers giveaways are very good, and end to be 10p in charity shops.

Places like Morrrisons sell double/triple 80's-90's albums for about £5.

Id second the fleabay route.

A quick search for "Jukebox" and theres loads of ex jukebox cd's for sale and the all go pretty cheap (and thats not the birdy song) hide.gif

I use a laptop but always have my CD's just in case.

As someone has mentioned the Jock in Box selections are great and party in a Box, they've got me out of trouble more than once.

I've also got the Now albums from 16-68, the 30's thro to 50's can be picked up for practically nothing and are always handy to have as most decents songs from the last 20 years will be on a Now CD
