Hey Guys,
Hope you are all well. I haven't Djed in must be over a year and suddenly I said yes to someone and haven't been able to say no since. A good friend of mine who also DJ's big time has asked me to cover a big gig for him next saturday night. Now from what i gather its a large auction company christmas party so I'm planning on a few crimbo classics and the usual oldies e.g build me up butter cup - brown eyed girl etc. What i really want is to get them moving. I know rock the boat is used but I've never seen how you do it. Sounds stupid but if someone wanted to explain. Also music man and hockey cokey.
I have read the forum and found a few tips but any good corporation team building or just general good fun all round audience participation activities so to speak would be most appreciated and welcome.
Thx Guys.
I'm gonna get back into this DJing game lol
Gotta Start somewhere again i suppose.

'Rock the boat'? - Do you mean 'Oops upside your head' by the Gap Band? I'm sure that anyone that knows the track and decides to get on the floor will know all the moves so don't worry.
As far as the other ones with movements go (Music Man and Hokey Cokey are...in my opinion, only for kids or really for the people who want ultimate cheesiness etc)... are as follows (from my experience)
The Jacksons - Blame it on the boogie
Los Del Rio - Macarena
Steps - 5,6,7,8
S Club 7 - Reach
Whigfield - Saturday Night
You could also chuck in some Lambada and the Grease megamix I suppose. I try to stay away from the above if at all possible but when it comes to christmas parties etc..you find that a lot of the girls request them as they are out to enjoy the office christmas do. Now and then I may play them at a party that wants cheese but what I would do is try some 'not so cheesy' tunes first of all to suss out if they are that type of crowd.

Thanks,
Much appreciated.
I hear where you're coming from but was hoping by the end of the night when most are full of drink music man YMCA etc might go down well.
Just with it being such a big office party wanted to get a few songs to get people together. I had thought maybe locomotion around the floor?
What do you think?

To be honest mate, I totally forgot those.
I had a group of girls pester me a couple of weeks ago at a party to play YMCA at 8.30pm!! I held out as long as I could as it's something I don't normally play unless asked.
I did do a set like this a few months back for a local family disco which featured the following:
Cha Cha Slide
Reach
5,6,7,8
Cotton Eye Joe
Grease Megamix
Mambo No 5
Hey Baby
Is this the way to Amarillo
YMCA
The Purple People eater
The Timewarp
Oops upside your head
Blame it on the boogie
Superman
The Twist
Locomotion
Shout
Hot Hot Hot
The Lambada
Macarena
Saturday Night
I must admit that the kids and parents loved it but they were cream crackered afterwards!

Welcome back
I'm with Shaker on this - don't overdo the cheese unless it's asked for. There's lots of other great music guests will dance too.
A few Christmas songs throughout the night (maybe hourly) - there are several threads on here if you do a search for Christmas Songs, Xmas songs and even poss Crimbo Songs & Bah Humbug!
The Rock the Boat 'dance' is the same as the Oops one. People sit on the floor one behind the other (usually in 2 or more rows) and lie backwards/forwards and lean from side to side
finished a gig on saturday with bad manners - the can can , they loved it ! i always think that if you are going to try and get them going on the novelty dances that macarena is the best place to start.

It definately is Rock The Boat and not Oops Upside Your Head...
Same dance/actions, but different song.....
Rock The Boat in Ireland/NI, Oops Upside Your Head in the Scotland/Wales and England.

I personally try to steer cleer of music man and the hokey cokey unless it's kids lol
As much as I hate them these go down a storm:
Cotton Eyed Joe - Rednex
Jump Around - House of pain
plus add
too much too young, baggy trousers, town called malice
A fairly up to date bit always goes down
