Sorry can't do a diagram but from your laptop connect to your soundcard (poss USB) then from the output of the SC (poss phono) into the input for channel one on your mixer (again phono).

Next you need a lead from the output of your mixer into the input of your amplifier (usually phono again - could be XLR). And finally leads from the output of your amp to your speakers (could be jack or speakon).

Turn on your laptop 1st, then your mixer, then your amp (have all vol settings at min to start with and adjust to suit).

OK I WILL ATTEMPT TO PUT YOU RIGHT OK.

firstly laptop to input on mixer via soundcard. i dont know your card or config so cant tell you exactly.

main out put from mixer to amp, do you use a crossover??? you not mentioned one so i assume not.

do you have subs as you mentioned top speakers?

finally amp output to cabs, speakon connectors i assume.

but it does beg the question chris why are you calling yourself a dj if you cant even connect the basic ingredients of a rig?

i suggest you change your tag to chris until you can connect, build up and de rig. then maybe put the dj bit back.

not trying to be rude just very puzzled. it reflects on all of us when these so simple questions are asked on a dj forum

the configuration of the soundcard and traktor i cant help you with as i cant see it.

Maybe we should have U/T DJ. tongue.gif

The forum is here to help newbies as much as old timers. I'd rather have someone come on here and ask for advice and then get it right than struggle by themselves and make an 363.gif of it.

I'm not advocating that anyone can learn everything here and then go out and do their 1st gig at someones wedding - training and experience are still required - but we all had to start somewhere and let's face it nothing was harder than beatmatching with wax cylinders newyear.gif

When I started I was a complete disaster and couldn't do anything myself. Luckily I was working for another DJ who was incredibly patient and really did everything for me until I caught on. I would still say that I'm a hell of a long way off having the technical knowledge or proficiency that 90% of the people on here have. But I'm definitely a lot better than I was. What I do know is, the only way I learnt anything was by asking "stupid" questions. Thank God (or whatever you believe in) that this forum is here for people who are trying to leanr and don't have the benefit of an experienced DJ nearby to help them out.

Chris,

your first gig is on 1st december.. you realy should spend some time with the kit getting to know it before you go live....

laptop to sound card, sound card to mixer, mixer to amp, amp to speakers.......

Chris, I am not sure where you live but if you are local one of the DJ's on here I feel sure they will help you out

If you have a reasonable Laptop to simplfy things you can connect to the pod via the tape jack plug you may need a 3.5mm jack (from The laptop head phone socket) to 3.5 jack both stereo (into the pod) Tape in socket It is designed to take a laptop directly

You will only need the mixer if you have other equipment to connect CD decks etc.

Make sure the POD is OFF and ALL the Master amp controls down (anti clockwise). Leave the graphic sliders in the centre for now. Connect your speakers as per the POD manual It can be difficult to understand as the pod actually has two amps built in. One for the main speakers and one for the monitor speakers The Pod Is really designed for Live music use (band etc)

Set the laptop volume at about 75%. Turn on the pod and Set the Tape control to about 12 oclock play some music. Then slowly turn up the gain on the master control on the pod. If it sounds distorted then turn the tape in down (anti clockwise) You can then set the eg to get the best from your speakers

Try this and let us know how you get on

rictic sounds rude to me,this is a 17 yr lad trying to get help,my lad is 17 and needs a lot of help still and has recieved tremendous support off this forum and long may it continue,if you look up the word disc jockey(dj for short)it says
quote"A disc jockey or DJ is a person who selects and plays prerecorded music for an audience." nowhere can i find it saying someone who knows how to connect everything up.i dont see how this lad can be reflecting bad on you or anyone else if he comes on here asking basic questions and trying to get right.nowhere have i seen him say he is expireienced or made any claims like that,he has got his first gig on saturday and needs help not knocking.sorry if i sound off with you but he is asking the same questions as my lad did only he was lucky and didnt get knocked back for it.
thanks to the rest of you for giving SOUND ADVICE hide.gif as usual
chris make sure you set it all up before saturday so yopu are happy with how to do it and you know what wire goes where.
good luck
