Do you have any tracks that you'd like to try playing, thinking they might go down well, but have never had the courage to try them.

Two tracks that I'm fairly sure would go down well at the right time are:

Bucks Fizz - Making Your Mind Up
&
Gina G - Ooh Aah Just A Little Bit

But somehow, the right time never seems to appear to give them a go.

Another one was Nena - 99 Red Balloons, but somebody requested it once, so I've now managed to play that one.

How abut you?
Mattaious
Kevin Bl censored2.gif dy Wilson - Do you censored2.gif on first dates hide.gif whistling.gif

On a serious note

Sunshine after the rain - Berri

I often play Gina G - never had any problems

Good question!

Without You - Nilsson
Don't Marry Her (Naughty Version!) - Beautiful South
Forever Autumn - Justin Haywood
Smack My Bitch Up - The Prodigy
Strokin' - Clarence Carter

wizard
Beethovens 9th symphony 4th movement - walter carlos ( from the film clockwork orange)

Anything by Midnight syndicate ....has anyone else apart from me ever heard of them at all !!

Anything by Justin Haywood or the Moody Blues...although Nights in white satin was a first dance once

Early Tangerine Dream ( Phaedra preferably......could make for a good night :-)

I do have a weird taste in music

robbiedj
I play all three, Paul. With the right crowd they go well.

And I've played the "studio" version of The Beautiful South, Kevin Wilson and other studio versions for Stag nights. whistling.gif
danger mouse
motor head - ace of spades or ac/dc thunderstruck. tongue.gif
mick
I played the Gina G track a few weeks ago at an autumn ball and it worked well with the crowd.
I have loads of tracks that I know would go well but never seem to get around to playing them.
I have a rule that we always play at least one completely different old track at my regular venue and sample the reaction - Good choice there although 99 red balloons has an erratic tempo and is strange to dance to.

Bucks Fizz - Is reasonably popular, mainly at weddigs and I play it after chubby checker.
Gina G is more popular than Bucks Fizz - as it's mid 90's the younger crowd know it.

Nena - is sometimes requested. If so, then I play it.

I think of a lot of tunes and have the same dilema. Do I play it or not? Sometimes it comes off and the florr fills and sometimes it's a killer. I do like to try something a bit different so I would say on a whole I tend to try a different track or two at each function, but possibly not at peak times.

a fine track, which works well in a 90's style set.

i have played strokin more than once, great tune. i just slip it in (forgive the pun) and i reckon its cleaner than a lot of r n b type stuff nowadays anyway.
listen to some of millie jacksons rude stuff too, real near the knuckle.

My songs would be:-

Rocks - Primal Scream

Rock and Roll - Led Zepplin

I am sure with the right crowd the sonds would work well but as the original poster states I have just never found the right crowd.

With regards to Gina G it is quite a regular one to play for me. I find it goes quite well with Tiffany (I think were alone now).

My songs:

Rick Astley - Together Forever

No Doubt - Don't Speak

Kylie Minogue - What do I have to do

great song

have a go and play them paul you might be surprised.if they don't work at one then have a good back up to regain the floor but they just might do better than you think
Norfolk DJ
Good thread this one, we all through this dilema from time to time
andyw
even if they bomb the first time you try them, leave it a few weeks and try again at a different function.

true, you can't from playing a tune just once.

I got asked for Love - "Alone again or" last night, I wouldn't normally consider it as part of a gig (even though I love the song), but I took the plunge anyway for some reason. Went down really well.

Goes to show you never can tell.

Two tracks I'd love to play but don't get the chance are these:

2 minutes to midnight - iron maiden
girls girls girls - motley crue

Ideally played rather loud over a healthy sound system...
(You get an idea of the stuff I like!)
llcooljoe
I'd love to play Jackie Wilson's "Work Out"

and NSYNC's "Girlfriend" featuring Nelly.

Not sure why though. hide.gif

There's always an opportunity to slip any song in. Just go for it!!!
