Since my brother died we now have no organist at church, so we invested in a "Hymn Player". It's a brilliant little bit of kit which comes with 2700 Hymns built in and fully customisable.

However. At the moment, I have a very long cable going from where I sit at the back of the church to the amp which is at the front of the church.

My original idea when we were buying it was for it to be wireless, so there would be no need for cables, and it could be operated from anywhere in church.

I bought one of the wireless video/audio units, but this suffered from interference if anyone moved about near the transmitter or receiver, and it did not have any squelch built in, so if you turned the transmitter of before the amp, you got an almighty hissing from the amp.

So I bought another setup that was purely audio based. This works great for lack of interference, and has built in squelch so you can switch the amp on before you switch on the transmitter, and both the transmitter & receiver have built in re-chargeable batteries. However, this is suffering distortion at low frequencies, no matter what level of input I use.

I know others on here have used wireless with success.

So what makes and models have you used without any of the above problems?

Hmmm, do the wireless TX/RX units (with the recahrgable batt packs within) have the option on an AC/Mains adaptor powering them instead.

I've known of TX/RX kit doing strange things with diffrerent brands of battery - but as these rechargables are built-in, you don't have the luxury of trying Duracells Vs Rechargables, or NiMH Vs Ni-Cads etc.

But you might find that a decent (suppressed) mains power supply, if the kit has the recipricol socket for DC IN, might yeild results, at either one, or both ends of the signal path.

I'm always a bit wary of wireless sound systems - drop out, interference etc. Then there's the impending sell off of the frequency spectrum we currently use. Have you considered having a cable permanently fixed around the edge/over the top and then just plug in & go.

I'm also interested in the 'Hymn Player'. At the moment if I require a hymn for a ceremony I purchase it as an MP3 from a church site in UK (99p). However depending on the price of this system & demand reaching a level where it would be viable then it would be worth looking into.

I don't think you'd want to buy one of these Paul, it's just under £2000.

If I can't find a wireless system that works then I'll have to cable it up with sockets at a few points around the building, but I'd much rather have it wireless. The player has a built in rechargeable battery, so it would be really nice to be able to just open the flight case, turn it on, and go.

I remember this could-be-quite-useful post from a while back supplied by our good man RobbieD:

Sennheiser wireless kit

Just wondered whether this item had come up in your research?
