Picking up on one of the other recent threads of new music, I just wanted to raise the quality of this year's Mastermix ProDisc.

In my own opinion, I've been getting the Pro-Disc on subscription since No 30, it's now at No 88, this year has seen the poorest selection of tunes on the discs.

A whole host of number 1 singles have been missing from the disc, which is supposed to be 'up-front' with what is happening. On the normal issues there was no Mika - Grace Kelly, Rihanna - Umbrella, Kanye West - Stronger, Sugababes - About You Now, Sean Kingston - Beautiful Girls, Leona Lewis - Bleeding Love etc....

I also feel that some of the months have also been filled more than enough 3rd and 4th singles from an album, most of which only reach the lower depths of the chart as most of the record buying public already have the albums.

Have any of the other pre-release cd's got a better track record ?

Anyone from Mastermix want to chip in..... ??

No longer do the record companies have the same control over what hits number one as they used to.

the can no longer garantee that there major artist is going to hit the top spot ...

infact when some fool can sing about ladies bras on youtube and hit the top 20 on down load sales the days for things like pro disc are numberd...

I find that the CDPOOL / white disc cds are great if you are into a type of music eg house.. but if you want A cd with a good reflection of what the teens are listening to in there bedrooms then you will have to make your own ....

however just cos the teens are down loading it does not make it a good dance floor tune...

I have to echo what Spinko has said;
I only started my subscription to Pro Disc this year, but due to the misses Spinko pointed out - tracks which any release-aware company should have been able to predict - I am thinking about cancelling.

Trouble is, I'm not aware of any alternative, downloads excepted.

I agree, they are getting less and less use, I am having to download more tracks than ever to get the stuff I am asked for. Mastermix rung me today asking if I wanted to buy the ones that got away but by now I have them all and probably by next year no one will want them anyway. It is a problem and I am not sure if the other promo's are any better.

Reasons listed are why i discontinued with my subscription to the white disc..I was only playing two or three songs from each disc.Just wasnt worth it in the end...

Is this because nobody is bothered about the charts now?

I honestly don't know, my only way of judging popularity is by what is being requested at gigs and by that I mean gigs with a large proportion of under 20's. Their requests tend to mirror stuff in the radio one chart.
I did a big school gig on thursday and the tracks requested off pro disc 88 were track 14 Sean KIngston, 20 Timberland and 21 Kanye West most of the other tracks requested were all from stuff I had downloaded from i-tunes ie: Sugarbabes, Leona Lewis, Hoosiers, Take That etc.

I tend to do mostly weddings and birthday parties, and reckon that buying the NOW albums and a few downloads is sufficient.

Thanks the comments folks, agree with Mick I've done a couple of gigs recently where the audience has been predominantly under 21, and found that the tracks being requested were not on Pro-Disc.

I think that next year, it's sorry to Mastermix but will cancel my subscription. and invest on downloads. The've served their purpose well but have now been overtaken by technology.

I also find that less and less gigs are chart orientated and even the younger crowds are listening to older stuff.

I Cancelled my Prodisc Subscription October last year,

to be honest, i have not missed it yet,

the last few discs i had, i would only use a couple of tracks off them

I think mastermix ProDisc would be a lot more useful if, when they missed an obvious track, they included it on their next release.

NOW compilation CDs are many weeks behind the charts and still useful to some, so Mastermix, iincluding a track or two which had already been released, but possibly still in he charts would be more useful still.

I wonder why they don't do that?
