Sounds like a plan - is this your leaving gift to East anglia? Get us all to start talking to each other. Is this intended as just a social gathering or as maybe the start of something a little more regular and formal?

Anglia's or ex-East Anglians are welcome.
Where abouts is everyone and what kind of distance would you travel?
I know that Zanzibar is Woodbridge, BlackVynil is Swaffham, Me and Norfolk DJ (plus a couple of other local jocks) are Norwich, Revelation is Saxmundham but lets check everyone else.
Also, what would you guys want out of it? As we'll all be travelling, it won't be for the beer! :-(
Should we try and get a hall and bring some stuff? Do a bit of a learning session about something? What are your thoughts?

I think Mo has access to a hall - Swaffham way I think. Is that good for most people?
How about we have some sort of side by side quipment comparison - maybe speakers or amps? One of us needs to provide the decks, mixer and amp so that bit doesn't change and the rest of us bring along our speakers?
Same is certainly possible with amps and mixers?
I'm deffinately in favour of November though, little addition to the family in January!

Mo did mention Swaffham - He can get a hold of a smallish hall there for gratis...
Speaker meet would be ok, especially if I can convince Andy to bring a Bose along so all you who have never heard it can listen.
Personally though, speakers aren't really an interest to me.... Learning a little about your Par cans and linking em is - as is possibly using the HD2500 to others...
So it may be a little bit of everything to tempt people along...

Hi all
Swaffham is a bit far for us

...and also for others, but I cant speak for them. You've got DJ's potentially coming from Colchester, London (Ex Anglians) and other areas. Its ok if you're from March, Wisbech or Norwich as its only probably 40 mile round trip for Krazy Kaz, Mighty Quinn, Norfolk DJ and Tonsk (apologies if not mentioned others). I really want to get involved with something but I think others from afar will bottle out if they have to travel all the way to Swaffham...I may be wrong??
I just feel that I'm a 'newbie' and dont want to rock the boat and spoil something that already exists between some of you guys? I think if we're going to do something lets make it worth while and get as many people interested as possible and really establish a 'unity' between us. Lets make it central for everyone guys...
Ok...this is my proposal. Please tell me if I'm talking out of my
As for a free hall its not the be all and end all. I can book our local village hall for a tenner for an afternoon in the week (someone was suggesting a Friday). So I dont think we should limit our options because of a free hall although its a nice gesture

If I can book our hall for £10 I'm sure we could get something for similar money elsewhere?
However I personally dont think it a good idea to initially book a hall on a first meet although I appreciate a few of you have already met. I think there may be issues on who will bring what gear...there may be members who may not want to bring anything and then there will be people standing around. I know if it was gear been used by someone else I would be a little apprehensive ...but I think attitudes change when there is a 'relationship' of sorts. You then have thirst and hunger issues...I dont know if I want to be couped up in a cold hall for 4 hours with no food or a nice cuppa
I think we need to be all neutral, no gear to lug about or keep an eye on. I suggest a pub lunch or an evening chinese eat-in where we all feel comfy, get to know each other without getting too techy, exchange tips on music, exchange funny stories, blah blah. Its a social thing and its a great opportunity to converse and refreshments on hand. I just feel a hall is a bit 'cold' for a first gathering?? I reckon you're looking about about £15 per head for a good meal. Does anybody share my views or am I been a nob?
I suggest Bury St Edmunds or Newmarket as that is more central for everyone and there are good roads from all locations to these towns. I would be more than happy to share the ride with revelation.
Then....after our first meet we could then arrange a convention of sorts where we could all bring our gear and do sets and possibly make some money out of it and organise a massive extravaganza next summer for paying clients??

No need to take cover at all, but I think maybe you need to review your position. I've been keen to get involved with others for some time now and this is the most and the closest we've come so far. If we do arrange something, it needs to be reasonably central. Bury and deffinately Newmarket are far from that. I'm litterally just up the road from you in Saxmundham so you're welcome to a lift, but if I'm honest, Swafham / Thetford is probably about the best compromise we're going to get. The problemw ith East Anglia is that it's a huge place. You will never please everyone, so you have to I'm afraid please the most you can. I for one would happily travel a little distance to gain the benefits of a local organisation, but I think Newmarket is going to be too far for many of us - you included I would have thought.
As for what to do, please don't take this the wrong way, but a beer and a Pizza is just that, hardly constructive, but certainly could be fun. Not sure I want to give up an eveing for just that though.
The key here is to decide what we want this to be? There is already one national organisation with roots at local level - NADJ, which as I suggested earlier could be a good starting point. I have had conversations about how to go down this route before and the starting point is to get together, with or without the NADJ's help and work on local interest and see how that needs or wants to develope. Personally I think it would be a great plan to get Derek Pen invloved at this stage and see where it takes us, but I'm just one voice in all of this.
You're right, maybe stage one doesn't need to be a huge equipment fest, but it does I feel need some sort of structure and purpose.
This was Tony's idea to start with, so might be fair to see what his take is on things when he gets back from his weekend away.
Please don't think I'm putting you down, but have a think about where most of the guys are - as I said, happy to give you a lift.
Also outside of this be nice to catch up with you sooner as we are very very local! Sure we can help each other out!

I'll travel to wherever the meet is decided . I'm regularly in Suffolk and Norfolk so don't see traveling to any part a big deal. But if I'm driving then I won't drink and would find it more constructive having a look at other DJ's kit.
Theres nothing to stop individuals bringing a few tinnies if they want and ordering in Pizza's on the night

I think Zanzibar is right to a point, it would be nice to get to know everyone on an intimate personal level
Trouble is, the person you are talking to could be a really nice guy, but a rubbish jock and you wouldn't really know unless you were talking shop - which is what I would love to do...
There is nothing to stop a hall, with tables up one end and a bar, with those nerdy DJs up the other (and you know we are!) looking at something someone has brought along (not a full rig, but possibly some DMX parcans to show how you do it, or an HD2500 so people can play and see if they like it, or a Bose L1 so people can hear the hype as it were...)
As to location, as I have just voted in the poll Matt put up, I am happy to travel.. Matt just mentioned Thetford which, even though quite a way a way from me, is closer than Swaffham and may be better for me (as the A11 is better than the A47!) so that may be an option.
I don't mind going to Bury... But I wouldn't wanna go to Newmarket...
I think this will happen - There's too many of us not for at least some to attend, and I think the more the merrier... So even if you don't think it's for you, come along for one just to see....
It wouldn't be wasting an evening as you would definately get something out of it - possibly more referrals from everyone else in attendance as they have met you and you sound like you know what you're doing......
I know nothing beats seeing you in action, but this would be the next best thing.....

It's quite ok Mate! I have my boxing gloves ready, lol!
There are a couple of cambridge and one colchester votes. I wonder if the guys who made them would mind posting where abouts they are from so we can get a better feel for location?
Also, seems there is interest in forming some sort of local association and a little interest in that being NADJ. Would it be acceptable to see if NADJ are interested in providing more details on how they "could" be involved locally - I don't believe that would commit us in any way?
TonyB
Oct 29 2007, 12:25 PM
I'm the other side of Colchester so will most likely have to pass Colchester on the way so will be happy to give a lift to the Colchester Votee. I voted location not an issue but Ipswich would be really easy to get to.
I'm not against a NADJ person being there on a non committal basis as they may be able to better explain the benefits of membership and it would be down to the individuals if they want to join or not.
It all depends on what date is chosen though as I am booked up for a few Fridays.

Please don't think me ungreatful or being an ar$e here, but I sort of assumed that the whole idea was a local area meet. Now I am certain anyone who fancied coming along would be more than welcome, but Northampton / kettering does seem rather a long way from us over here on the east coast.
Would it be of more benefit for someone to try and sort something out over that way? I'm sure you would have a lot of success with maybe Birmingham and east midlands DJ's?
Just seems that the bigger the area gets the more diluted it becomes.
As I said, not intending to be an ar$e, just a little practical.
So where are you Tony - set a date and a venue mate!

Right then, just been in touch with Tony who's asked me to progress this as he's had to go away.
Could I ask all of you who are interested in attending to drop me a PM to confirm your interest and let me know a date and location preference.
Please bear in mind that there is quite a wide geographical split - Norwich, Colchester and Cambridge, so it would be only fair to try and come to a compromise between these places, but obviously I need to understand from individuals what would be impossible for them to achieve. I am going to suggest that a Friday night or Sunday afternoon / evening would be best, but am happy to take advice from you all.
If I can have your thoughts in the next couple of days please and I will try to arrange something.
Would also be keen to get a feel for whether to invite someone from the NADJ or not - obviously with no pressure to commit to anything. Obviously I will go with the majority on that one!
Also really keen to hear the Bose set up, so if you have one, be great to see you there.
Look forward to hearing from you all.

I've voted Norwich, however to get it off the ground would be willing to travel as far as Ipswich, Cambridge, King's Lynn if needs be.
Really think it would be of great benefit if we got together, like the idea of looking at equipment, especially at something that I haven't got or may think of buying but really feel that the main point of the evening is for us to get together and do some real networking as the sales people would tell us.
We could taylor the meet to our needs, perhaps discuss a few topics dear to our hearts, insurance, pricing, venues, music and consider the idea of aligning to an association. I say consider as it may not be something that we want to do, but we could meet on a quarterly basis, at say, Cambridge, Norwich, Ipswich and King's Lynn meeting at least somewhere near one another.
It's a great idea and proposal, let's go with it to see where we go, together we will be stronger.

OK, still waiting to hear back from a few of you, but generally a good response.
Therefore I would like to propose (anounce?) the following:
Eastern DJ meet
Location: Thetford (venue to be arranged)
Date: Sunday 25th November
Time: 12:00 - 16:00 (or later)
Agenda: Meet and network, agree on progression, equipment demo (TBA)
The time was really so that those who wanted to could arrive in time for lunch and a beer - so I will make sure I book a venue with facilities for both and the finish time is certainly not set in stone. I'm sorry if this is not perfect for everyone. it's really hard to get something that's spot on for everyone. However, this doesn't mean that the next one needs to be in the same place.
Also have a feeling the room may not be completely free (although I will do my very best). Can I take it as read that we're all happy to chip in a few quid if needed? I have suggested to the people I have been in touch with so far that we will buy drink and food, so maybe that'll be enough!
Could I have a show of hands to confirm attendance please?

Sun Nov 25th and Thetford is fine for us.
We have Cerwin Vega Intense 118 18" 500W Per channel Bass Bins (never heard bass like it!), Intimidation 600W Per channel Bass Bins and Cerwin Vega Intense 152 300W Per channel Mid tops. Sound is perfect...any interest? We're not selling

..we'll bring them if people want to hear? Also have Shure UHF and JTS UHF wireless mics, Kam DMX scanners and barrell (great for a big room), Waterwave (really great effect on white washed ceiling or wall). We also have a 1500W Vaporiser strobe. Loads of other lights. We have 2 x Phonic Max2500 amps (total power 1500W) so if anyone is in the market for a new amp I recommend these.

Zanzibar,
How great to see such enthusiasm. I hope the rest of the guys coming have the same!
It may however be sensible at this point to outline a little of what we might want to achieve at the meet. I have spoken to a few of you and have some ideas, but certainly think it would be sensible to get a general idea.
My starter for ten:
1. Initial and informal meeting of other DJ's in our area
2. General, but formalised discusions on a couple of local issues (to be decided)
3. Discusions and agreement on the format of future meetings:
- This could simply be that we continue with an informal meeting, that we form a formal committee or
that we decide to go down the NADJ route. But I think that's something that will become aparant at the
meet.
4. A small section where we can look at a couple of bits of new kit
- currently I am hoping we can see the Bose L1 in action and maybe the new Denon PC controller
I don't think this is really the right place or time to start huge demo's or big kit sound off. Maybe just a chance in include a little bit of new and different gear into an otherwise fairly informal afternoon.
I have now hear, very sadly, that Mo will not be able to make the first meeting - Sundays I believe are difficult for him, but I am getting the impression form most of you that the date and day is generally good for the majority - do letr me know if I am wrong!
So, please do let me know what you feel the afternoon should be about and include?

It's always a shame when someone can not attend due to prior commitments but hopefully there will be opportunity's in the future.
Sounds really great what you guys are doing and I hope your first meeting is merely one of many.
I would like to suggest not to rule out the possibility of enquiring for a 'group buy / discount' from any reputable Disco Sales company if invited to attend future meetups. Ok, if you don't ask - you don't get. From experience, you are more likely to receive interest as a body of members as opposed to individual enquiries.
You may wish tp get in touch with someone like 'Essex DJ' who may be available to come and visit future meets. You never know, if they are available, you could ask for a demo of the Denon system or anything else equipment wise / lighting, etc that your meet attendees may be interested in. The 'Essex DJ' owner is very nice and very helpful.
By the way, I believe that Spinner is East Anglian based if my memory serves me well. If available on the night, he may be able to demo his controller thingy and provide a unique perspective / insight on association membership at this / future meets.
Unfortunately I'm in London on the 25th but had I not been, I would have happily brought along the Bose for you to play with! I'm sure someone around your way has a Bose system?
You could always ask Sound Control in Norwich if they could arrange a future demo for the East Anglian group during the week / one Saturday morning? I'm sure they have a range of speakers to compare with!

Of course the ends have to justify the means but forming a regional body of like-minded with the opportunity to promote the profession and own service would be a daft opportunity to miss!
Glad this forum area is being used. If there is anything else Paul or I can do to help, please do not hesitate to shout.

OK - time for an update!
It looks like we've got about 14 or 15 confirmed attendees (fingers crossed).
I have an option on a venue as well. It's not the smartest pub in the world, but it is really easy to get to and has ample parking. I will set up an email round robbin sort of thing when I get home and keep everyone informed and send out direction.
I do need to point out that the venue has beer and drinks on tap, but doesn't do food. I am thinking that I organise pizza or fish and chips or something if that's acceptable with everyone? After all, the beer (or diet coke for all of us who will be driving) is the more important part!
The room has a reasonable capacity and we are able to demo a little amount of kit (and I will be in touch with those who have offered to sort something out), but we must be mindful of noise (so no big bass speaker sound off's this time).
Any questions or concerns please post or PM

Could I just say that I'm not able to make this, though it's perhaps a bit late now anyway, but would be quite interested in any future meets.
Just a vote of confidence and show of interest really.

QUOTE(DJ Meet)
Just an update and a reminder that the first DJ meet is coming up quickly. For those who've misslaid the info or for the newcomers:
Date: Sunday 25th November
Time: 12 noon - 4pm (ish)
Venue: The Ark, Thetford
Venue is located here:
http://www.multimap.com/maps/?hloc=GB|IP24%202JE I'm pleased to announce that the meet will include:
- A Bose PAS Demonstration
- Hands on with a Denon DN-HD 2500
- Chance to see an ImpossibLED in action (hopefully)
We also hope that Cambridge Sound and Light will be joining us.Currently trying to perswade them to bring some goodies along for those of you with a little cash burning a whole in your pocket to purchase.
There will also be a "Sunday Swapshop" - a great oportunity to exchange or sell your unwanted gear. Something I hope we will feature regularly. If you have anything you would like to bring along, please could you contach Andrew Quinny with full details and he will let you know how to progress. Andrew can be contacted by email: Quinney46@hotmail.com
We are also currently in discussions with NADJ who will hopefully send a representative to discuss the benefits of membership - there is obviously no commitment being made to become part of the NADJ at this stage, just be good to hear what they have to say!
It would be great to get at least a YES from each of you (or an unfortunate no) so I can get an idea of numbers, but more importantly to make sure I have working email addresses.
I will post a link to or directy on the forum a poster advertising when later today so those who are able to pop one up can do so and there will be a full agenda pasted by the end of the week.
If there are any pressing matters that attendees would like to discuss, please let me know by Friday.
Many thanks to the admin here for all the support so far!
