Ok Guys,

Normally I find that meal time etc at weddings are no longer than 3-4 hours (even the indian gigs I do) and they tend to take there time eating

On SAT 8th Dec 07, I got a wedding and they have asked for "soft/lovey dovey/romantic" inlove.gif type songs (their words not mine) LOL (From 12:00 Midday until approximately 8pm background music), although the B&G have said people will not always be in the hall

Do I repeat what I have!!!!! Will someone spot it, as you know you will have a copule who insist they sit and listen to the music all day

I am now starting to struggle to find more I'm now going back to the 40's with Frank Sinatra (It had to be you & The way you look tonight)

Can you guys give me some song titles that you use, I know I may have most of them, but now I have a blank mind (which is not hard to acheive) he he. Every time I find or think of something I listen to the words and guess what, it turns out to be about breaking up etc....

I have read some of the other threads "What Not to Play", but that only makes things worse for me

Come on guys, ideas please, this is racking my brain & I need some help/pointers

thanks.gif

Out of interest, what did you quote for the 8 hours background music? biggrin.gif

I'll try to put together a list from next week and post here. In the mean time...

Quick answer 1, search Amazon, find 'X' albums of love or crooner songs that have a playing time beyond 1 hour, stick these on and make up the difference in the remaining hours that you have love song material for - closer towards the main event! Eg 6 hours of bac to back CDs and 2 hours of you swapping tracks (performing).
Quick answer 2, got any karaoke backing tracks / instrumental versions of songs to 'throw in' during the background period to make up selections?
Quick answer 3, right, you've quoted for the 8 hours to account for the prep time you're going to put in to make this all work however you don't have enough music material to cover 'X' amount of hours of requested material......consider contacting someone available for around 5-6 hours who CAN cover this.
Make up the remaining time yourself. This will allow the hired help to work in the evening elsewhere locally.
Quick answer 4, You read all sorts of music lists but are finding it hard to put together enough material suitable for 2 hours let alone 8. You could consider forwarding the list you have compiled so far for the client to peruse and agree to. In other words, you forward a music planner. You can guarantee the music played is great because the client approved particular tracks.

Not the biggest list in the world...but a start!
Obviously, have left out hymns - It is usual for up to three hymns to be sung during the 'traditional' wedding service but more could be sung on the day!

Ok
How about some classical music, Vivaldi's Four Seasons, Rimsky-Korsakov's Scheherazade, and some Opera classics, Madame Butterfly, Turandot etc. You can also play some flim scores (not Mad Max or Star Wars) Look for some Enio Morricone, ie Cinema Paradiso, or some John Barry; Out of Africa.
I play this kind of thing for background music, and it is fab, as it is not intrusive, it fills slience, and relaxes people. I know people think 'why would a DJ play that' but, it isn't there to start a party, it is there to create a romantic atmosphere for the Bride and her fool, I mean the Groom.
Also, as each of those are about an hour or so long, you only need 4 or 5 of them, and you are away!

Hope this helps
Good luck
Chris

Do an hour od swing music, swing albums are very cheap, under 5 pounds a lot of them. Nat King Cole, Armstrong Frank dean, all romantic, thens the older stuff.

Guys,

Thanks for the turbo fast replies so far.....

In addition to my 1st

This is a good one and hopefully it has got a lot of you also thinking (cheers)

Dukesy..... Good news, I am already taking the other half with me, who will be able to help out during the BG period, it will give me a break (and hopefully a chance to have a butchers hook around the place), nice little castle in 25 acres of land (just hope I don;t get lost) biggrin.gif

Its a very long one..... midday (8 hours BG) until 1am (5 Hours main work), but luckily for me there is a group playing for 1 hour..... so really 4 hours main

Deposit is paid..... (thank god)....... Me and the Misses are getting a room for the night in the Castle, (Hope we don't hear the B&G) he he, I may say I might take the rest of the Month off..... 2.5 Grand was the total bill, and from the response of the B&G, and to my surprise, I think I was one of the cheaper quotes they got...

But as I said I am happy with that days work, and they are happy to pay

I have said to the B&G that I would put something together for their approval and also they have said they would like to add some other stuff

Chris.... Cheers.... Looking straight at me..... I have loads of Classical & also Instrumental stuff

Cheers so far guys

Dukesy look forward to your list

thanks.gif

8 hours of BG music is only 8 CDs (or 4 double CDs smile.gif ). There are loads of compilations of love songs - add in some swing, classical, slow country, slow rock, motown. At max you'll only need 160 tracks (20 per hour at 3 mins each).

The closest I could get to finding out how many songs have been released was 'over 1,000,000,000' (one billion) so finding 160 suitable ones shouldn't be a problem smile.gif
Little John
I use classical piano, classical chamber music, latin jazz, dinner jazz, swing(crooners), Big Band, and some wedding classicals I have. I also have the Mastermix Ballad Box set which is LOTS of appropriate tracks.

I did 10 hours of BG once and didn't have to repeat, though I did play some salsa in there too.

There must be something on the ClassicFM label too Classical Love/Romance/Smooth

Hope your reply above has come out the way you want it Chris.

Had a bit of trouble sorting out the double post. stupid.gif especially as my mouse appears to be on the way out and keeps double clicking for me.

Simple - get a lovesongs album and pitch it at -80%, it will last all day, but may sound a bit funny laugh.gif

I think you could play Acid at -80% and it would be right.
