Dj's United > "TALKING SHOP" > D.J and Karaoke Chat

Professional Mobile Disco & Wedding Disco
kazzachi
I start the topic again this week...... Which im glad about because as I dont have ANY gigs this weekend, am hoping that somebody might need a DJ to cover this weekend!

Well, what y'all up to then?
Chrispy
You can come and give me a hand Kaz!.

Tonight (Friday):- Myself and Richard doing a large Wedding Reception for 450 Guests at the very posh "Rookery Hall" near Crewe (Famous for Posh & Beck's Wedding Reception!).

Saturday:- The 3rd week in a row at Winkers Night Club. 9.30 - 2.00AM. I must admit that having just (Holiday) covered for Pete, the D.J / Manager who plays opposite weeks to me, I'm glad that I don't play there EVERY Saturday!. Every fortnight suits me, since it does get boring - even 3 weeks into it, and I actually found myself missing the Mobile D.J "break" in the week between smile.gif .

Nice easy weekend - Saturday night: The last wedding reception(?) of the year (except for some stupid pair getting hitched on December 27th...I hope they dont have any last minute supply issues).

AT LAST Saturdays wedding is actually a gig where the people will be leaving me more than 20 minutes gap to set-up in...I've got a full 2 hours between them leaving the function room, and returning.

OK, sods law is, that I'll set up in an hour, then discover some fault that'll take me 58 minutes to fix, and I still wont get any time to play.

Bride and Grooms first record: Sisqo: Incomplete (Stargate remix) (wierd first record...way too fast...)

Other requests for the night...the usual "No hip hop, no rave, no rapping" then unusually "No YMCA, no Timewarp" - maybe the Bride & Groom dont like using under-arm deordourant...?

They HAVE however asked specifically for "Sclub7: Reach for the stars", Justin Timberlake, and R.Kelly.

Ah...memo to self: Remember to buy some more giveaway prizes for little boys...otherwise a little girl is going to have to be made to win the Musical statues games again... beer.gif

M!? is that 007's colleague?
And if Hitchen is your destination you know what to do dontchya? use your thumb biggrin.gif or actually for you ladies, probably a glimpse of leg would produce better results rolleyes.gif

The normal gig tonight in Eastcote and a very posh one tomorrow, The Lanesborough Hotel on Hyde Park Corner. Check this for a View!
I imagine all I'll need for that gig is Chas & Dave's greatest hits and My Ol Man's A Dustman!.
It's a wedding and I asked them if they wanted any special messages displayed on my iBall and one of the messages is "Thanks WheresMyDate.com for making it all possible"!
This will be the 2nd wedding I've done (that I know about) where the couple met through the internet. I guess in this age of technology it will become more commonplace until eventually you're looked upon as weird if you meet a girl in a pub rather than through a dating site wacko.gif tongue.gif

You have the Mandy's & The Caroline's? what's that a bit of cockney rhyming slang! Hmm, let's see; must be Mandy Moore's which I s'pose must be Doors and then Caroline Quentin's which has to be rentin'; so you're renting some doors? wacko.gif or are you just hiring a Jim Morrison tribute band beer.gif
paula

Friday nights usual gig has been cancelled because one of the DJ's I put in there has undercut me, little censored.gif , Still he can do every Friday and Saturday in December for £60, I will take away all the other gigs I have him booked for, so he loses around £1400 in December alone, no too bothered anywau something had to go and it was going to be that club, so delivering a wedding cake instead

Saturday, my gig is a very small hotel, in a very small room, two lights on the floor, two speakers and that's it, four others to worry about though

Sunday is the local pub quiz

Monday Corporate dinner for Dixons plc, finish at 11.30pm at local racecourse
kazzachi
Andy, If a Dj who works for you, goes into one of your venues and undercuts you...... what on earth are you doing giving him more work...... GET OUT OF THE POOL!
YourBigEvent
Only just done it, Christmas date were already booked
kazzachi
I think I would find somebody else... you have enought djs to boot out the one that double crosses you dont you! I wouldnt stand for it Andy... remember, where theres a will theres a way!
YourBigEvent
Already have eight discos (and DJ's) out every Friday AND Saturday in December so may have to wait until January.
kazzachi
Does that mean that because you will be earning so much money what with your own gigs and commission on the others that Mrs andy will be getting a really good pressie this year!
YourBigEvent
Don't buy presents for each other, besides I won't have time to go shopping for it
paula
I'll think I'll go and look for a dark room! 042.gif

Nice gig eskie - let me know what you think of the lanesborough, I went for a meal there a little while ago and it was tops, although it had been a little while since I'd been there from my first visit as I was born there! - It used to be a hospital - another useless bit of trivia.
Hope you had a great gig

let me know what you think of the lanesborough

well the Lanesborough's a very nice hotel, although the staff were a lot more relaxed than many of the plush hotels around Park Lane, Kensington & Piccadilly. The staff were very friendly and the banqueting manager and his assistant absolutely loved my gear and PC mp3 system and kept going on about it and ended up bringing at least 5 other people up to come and have a look at it smile.gif They then asked for a load of my cards, so might see some more work there thumbup.gif
The actual gig was a little strange. Some of the most boring people I've encountered for quite a while. Even one of the family members came upto me and apologised for them being so boring huh.gif
For example, at one point a girl asked me to play some Kylie, at the time the dance floor was about half full. I played Kylie-Love at first sight as the next track. As the record started she smiled, thanked me and gave me the thumbs up and started dancing enthusiastically, then suddenly after about 2 minutes of the song she sat down, and everyone else promptly sat down as well 533.gif
Paul Forsyth
As many have said, that,s the way it goes sometimes, and who says they didn't have a good time? I had a really dodgy birthday gig a couple of weeks ago (you know too many bums on seats) thought I'd blown it but then I get a letter asking if I could do a wedding for the same client. 533.gif
And hey what a great response from the staff - hope it does lead to more for you!
Vinnie
