Having a problem trying to convert a couple of my external hard drives from NTFS to Fat32 to use with my HD2500. I've tried the util that Gary recommened on an other thread but had no luck with it, it just says 'The format object drive can not be found. Confirm that the drive is connected correctly.'

I've Googled the subjet to death and found nothing that could help.

Is there something obvious that I'm missing here or is it more tricky to do than it sounds.
I can reformat them both to NTFS with no problem, but like that they're no use to me.

Please help me, it's doing my nut in.

Cheers

How big are the drives?
Depending on size, there are other utilities you could try.

Also, if the drives are very big it may be an advantage, certainly for FAT32, to partition them up into smaller chunks although I don't know how the 2500 handles partitioned drives.

I have some caddies that say "insert a formatted drive" and there is NO way you can format a drive in those caddies. Also I have a caddie that cannot be non-destructively opened!

So Caveat Emptor watch what you buy, get the right formatting first.

Try using Partition Magic !

If you're running XP it does contain a utility for that purpose although Norton Partition Magic is easier to use.

I bought it as a download.

Sorry chaps forgot to post an update, long story short sorted it with the app Gary posted the link to ages ago, which is the same as Denon posted too.

So as usual a big thanks.gif to you guys for all the advice you posted

Long story version,

Was trying to format drive while it was in a caddie connected to my new vista pooh.gif desktop via USB but the app wouldn't do it. didn't know if it was the OS or the caddie so I dug around in the shed found my old monitor got my old XP desktop going fitted the hard drive I wanted to reformat to Fat32 onto the secondary IDE channel and hey presto sorted. Doesn't sound that long reading it like that but it took me a week to sort it, which for someone with a spectacularly short attention span seemed like forever

Once again couldn't have done it without you lot

Cheers
Jase
