Your opinions on how you think the industry is going?. Good or Bad, and how you would like it to change (If at all).
Dj_Kray
I'm 50 50 hopefully as time goes by i will be able to play more my sort of music and get paid for it

I am very lucky that I rarely encountered any real trouble. I love what I do, that is making sure the majority of people that I perform to are entertained. There is always some individuals that have there own problems and don't leave them at home, mix this with alcohol and the resulting incidents can leave you feeling "why am I doing this?" However the next gigs are fantastic, which makes you want to carry on even more.

Put it like this, If I won a couple of quid on the Lotto I wouldn't be out at 3.30am on a cold, rainy, freezing cold Sunday morning in January.
In it for the money now, 20 years ago people would go out and enjoy themselves to 'party' records, now it is too 'serious', people have to wear the right clothes, walk the walk, drink the drink and they spend so much time looking 'cool' there no room for dancing.
I remember holiday camps being completely full up and wanting a good night, now most people want censored.gif music that you can't dance to, and sounds terrible.

I think I'll meet Mikeee, Spin, Chris in the local pub rather than the local disco.

I'm getting old and I don't care.

Rant over...Goodbye !!
Paul Smith
I do it because I enjoy it but that said I wouldn't leave my armchair unless the money was right so that puts me squarely in the 50/50 bracket.

djing is like sking it gets in your blood, i've been doing this for 25 years and still love the buzz. yes theres times you think why!!!! but the good outways the bad thumbup.gif

i believe the industry has to move towards some form of standards and regulations. still to many cowboys around . we also need to change the customers preception aswell. i spoke to a bride a few weeks ago who spent £600 on a pair of shoes for her big day but moaned like crazy because i quoted £120 for a 7 till 1am disco.... sad.gif

anyway as long as theres music there will always be a need for a live dj or presenter.

The Spindoctor
I put myself in the 50 - 50 bracket because whilst I work six nights most weeks I love what I do but would love to be able to pick and choose and have some sort of social life back again!

If I won the lottery I would STILL work every week doing my favourite ones but be a lot more choosy about weekend work!

I live it and think that standards are important and its up to us veterans to help the up and comers achieve greater heights! biggrin.gif

I put myself in the 50-50 bracket although I normally do it for nothing, it is purely a hobby that I enjoy.
prodical son
I put myself in the 100% bracket, i've always Dreamed of being a DJ since i was a about 13. Now i'm exactly Where i wanted to be, Doing a residency at a Nightclub.

I must admit the money is alway a bonus though!!! biggrin.gif

Spin I joke that if I won the lotto I would buy a newer van, but if I do win this week you can have my van and gear and I'll deliver it personally.
YourBigEvent
Better just add a tenner doesn't count, has to be over a million OK?
kazzachi
The day I dont enjoy it is the day I quit! We work to our own standards and whether there are cowboys out there or not.... if you are totally committed to your job they wont affect you whatsoever - apart from making customers appreciate the benefits of a professional dj. biggrin.gif

I'm with Kazz here, I still enjoy doing discos all over Europe and the world, the buzz you get from having a crowd enjoying what you are doing is something special...

You are after all just playing music made by other people! remember that and it will keep your feet on the ground!

You get to meet some amazing people, which maybe you wouldn't have a chance to do otherwise.....

You learn alot of life skills, which are always useful....

Djing is fun, and if you are nice to people, then you will be always in work.....
