Hi
Well i'd fall into the catagory of smei pro, but how I'd love to do it full time, however my g/f has the ultimate goal of spending money faster than I can earn it, so it's quite a task.
Also, having moved to Daventry in the last 18 months I'm having to get my customer base all over, but it's coming on nicely.

I suppose I come under semi-pro, as I have been Djing over 3 years.

Semi pro now, have done it professionally but decided to get another job too, discos earn me twice as much money than working full time though.

But over recent years I have started another business, the accountancy being what i will rely on my income in 10 years or so

Interesting poll, I am full-time professional with it being my only source of income, which means that basically I sit around and do very little during the day!!

I'm a self-employed TV Engineer during the week which also means I can be flexible with mid-week discos (esp during Dec) when I can have a lie in

I would come under Full Time pro. I run my own entertainment company daytimes and club DJ as well as mobiles in the evenings.

I'm coming full circle, maybe. I was a full time professional for about eight years followed by a seven and a half year (Up to date) stint actually using my degree in a 'sensible job'. I have continued to DJ part time.
However, I have been made a very, very tempting offer to return to the entertainments industry - so I may be to classing DJ as one of my full time professional jobs again

I dont earn enough out of dj-ing to make it full time and I dont make enough out of my full time job to live on so I have to do both. And quite frankly Im bloody knackered at the end of the week.

Thats very true Paula but whats the answer? Give up the day job cause for sure I couldn't give up the night job.The strange thing is that since I took redundancy earlier this year because I couldn't cope with the 12 hour shifts I am now working more hours than I was previously.

Did you know it is a legal requirment that you have to have 11 hours off between your day to day work? unless of course your working for yourself!
the work to live thing is changing into live to work with how demanding employers and customers are becoming and someone has to say no somewhere along the line!

Great having time off if you
a)afford the time
b)afford the cash
And if someone offers you cash for a couple of hours work you do it !!

Here's our story Adam's just left school & started college to be a chef, and I'm in my 25th year of working for a elect. utility co. If I get paid off ( hopefully with a good redundancy pack & pension) then I'll take up Djing full time & go to college in the day to do something new. We got into Djing a couple of years ago through the Youth club that we were helping out at, and still do.
I agree with Paula, life's too short to be working your self into the ground you've got to chill now and then less the old ticker will tell you it's time to (does that sound boring or what !)

There is good advice there, sometimes you need to listen to the more experienced around you (Dare I say older!

) and heed their advice. I found out the hard way earlier in the year that there are only so many hours in the day.
Try to take some time off, or at least one day every week where you relax with the family and unplug the phone!. Call down to the local (leave the Mobile at home!) and enjoy a quiet pint with old friends, or just enjoy sometime to yourself. This is especially more important with the busy silly season approaching for most!.
Working to live is one thing, but do you really need that bigger house?, or newer car?, surely the time would be better spent around your family rather than working 24/7?. As they say.....you can't take it with you when you go!.
