Did a Party Last Saturday and they had a Wedding Planner. Did not know that when i took it on (not that i would have had a issue but). She was a nightmare kept on and on telling me what to do and when then had a go at the room staff and the caters.

Anywho on to the worst bit, It was a Karaoke and Disco night we started at 7.30 taking requests and then loads come in infact we were set till the end of the night the only issue is that the Disco part would suffer as there would be no time for the music. The Bride and Groom decided to have a chip supper brought in at about 9 (might have something to do with the Buffet being really really bad) we took this time to ask the Wedding Planner if she would like (on behalf to the B&G) Disco or more Karaoke. Well the answer shocked me in the last 8 years that i have done this i have not been as shocked, She said well could you cut off the crap singers and they are getting on my neaves and i do not like it. Well told her that i could not do this as one i would get beaten up for saying that they are rubbish. i have never dealt with someone that has got on so many peoples neaves (she got flowers from the B&G).

I thought about it and from there opinion she did a good job but not for us. Oh and in the end she asked the B&G and they said to stop the Karaoke and finish with the disco.

Try and go directly to the B&G with how to carry on the evening - straight to the source but of course, if there is a planner, inform them too.

Wedding Planners do have to have a lot of authority about them otherwise nothing would get done, but from what you say this sounds 'not good'.

Aside: I would never use a Wedding Planner at all!

I would have listened to what she had to say, but only dealt with the B&G or best man. The planner was hired by the B&G. What does the planner know about music or a disco -very little by the sounds of it.

By & large it seems that wedding planners seem to let their little bit of power go to their head.

If she had said that to me I would have taken great delight in reminding her that she, like me was only there as an employee of the B&G & that her personal feelings didn't figure in the equation.

My own experience of wedding planners (admittedly only 3 of them over the last few years) is that they are simply people who are after a slice of every bride & grooms wedding fund by, becoming a middleman (or middle-woman) where no middle-person is really needed.

No wonder we keep hearing that the cost of weddings is going up and up, and (surely related) that fewer weddings are taking place.

Most people who employ a planner do so because they do not want to get involved with dealing with the suppliers on the day, so by going direct you may be annoying them.

can I ask why you would not work with a planner

Good point there, Ian. Although, I think I may still ask the B&G. I would expect they would be busy though, but am sure they could find a spare minute.

This is big - the main part of the evening. The flip side is that you do not ask them and they are not happy with the outcome.

Me, sitting down, talking to someone about every detail of this 'big day'. I don't think so.

I would, and am perfectly capable of doing it myself and do not need to spend extra cash on these people (no disrespect at all - just my opinion - a lot of people value using one).

Sort actual Wedding at Church
We have a photographer in the Family so that is sorted throughout the day
Book food and venue for reception. Maybe sound for any speeches.
Sod Limos and all that so not needed
Evening do - sort disco, food and venue (I would do the disco...hmmmm..maybe)
Honeymoon easy to sort.

Thats it. As you can tell....I do not plan on getting married.

Anyway, back to the topic as this is starting to drift a touch.

I think that they take away the stress cuz they worry about people not turning up being late etc. Its just that they seem to see everyone as below them for some reason.

forgot to say that i spent half the night with my staff chasing her about trying to get the money off her. We got to the point where we were going to say right no more music till we are paid.

I worked with a wedding planner the other month, and she was really good. Just keeping an eye on things and chatting to the B&G.. not bossy in anyway, i'd been booked direct so just talked to me as normal.

And the best part.. she had a daughter my age who kept me company whilst waiting for the meal to finish and at the end of the night biggrin.gif

Clients who use wedding planners are usually to busy, with work commitments to arrange a wedding themselves. Iam working with one next year, she has booked me on behalf of the B & G. Once the deal has been done (which it has now) the wedding planner passes the B & G details to my office and then it goes from there.

Mark, PM me the name of the planner you`ve had the issue with if you don`t mind please matey.

Cheers.

I have been a wedding planner for nearly 10 years now.

The only problem is that I do not take on a job where I do the DJ myself as I like to be available for the whole day to deal with any problems that may arise.

I have a list of trustworthy professional suppliers that I know are good value for money and also provide an excellent product and service.

Trust me its hard work trying to organise a whole wedding by yourself and if something does happen to go wrong you have to have a good backup plan.

Luckily for me I have onlyu had one bad experience and I have to say that it was with a fellow DJ. My usual guys couldn't make it as it was an august bank holiday and most DJ's were alreadt booked so I was recommended a chap by the best man who was a professional DJ and he did a friends wedding the year before and he was OK!!

I started to get worried when he turned up in his P reg transit, held together with rust. He started getting his gear out and it has to be the oldest gear I have ever seen. You know the ancient double deck combi jobbies, covered in dust. cracked light screens and some 30watt pinspots!! I nearly died. He had no up to date songs and everything was on vinyl. The newest track he had was from 1988!!

This is the only time that I have acted as a wedding planner and had to be the DJ as well. Understandably he was a bit upset when I told him to leave and threatened to beat me up and trash my van on the way out. What a nice guy!!!!!
