Hiya everyone

I'm a DJ in a few pubs and clubs in Newcastle and Blackpool. I mainly use CD's and have worked out that my collection I carry with me must be worth around £2000.

I know so many freelance DJ's who have had their Case Logic full of gig CD's stolen or they've left it in a club and never seen it again.

I always think I would never be so stupid to leave my CD's unattended but what if it happened and they were nicked? I'd no longer be able to DJ without spending a lot of time replacing it all.

So what about insurance? How much would it cost and is it worthwhile in the long run?

Let me know what you think. cheers!

Hi Jon,

Try Musicguard. I've used them for a couple of years now. They insure not only your music but also your equipment and they also throw in PLI (Public Liability Insurance).

Thanks for that Esk! Last time I enquired about insuring my cds I got quoted a ridiculously high price!

Remember that your cds are the most valuable part of any mobile - you can always replace or hire equipment but if you lose your music collection you cant replace it at the drop of a hat!

Never, never leave your cds at a venue or loaded in the car... an extra two minutes taking them inside could mean the difference between you being able to work or not!

Good Answers as always................. so I'll go for the grey area one. Jon have you thought of copying them and only taking out the copies, leaving the originals at home for safe keeping? As the law stands at the moment, if you are making 1 back up copy for your own use and you own the original - no problem! (Obviously this precludes you making 2 copies and then running say two disco's, but for your own single use you should have no problems at all)

533.gif Well If I started this now, I'm sure that by the year 3000 I might have a finished set of copy's to take out tongue.gif

Howdy creatures of the underground

I can vouch for Music Guard, however be aware, they will not insure part of your collection, if you have one out of two cases nicked, you're not covered, it's the entire collection.

The idea of copying your cd's is also a good one. I've been considering doing that myself, however my reasons are slightly different. I'd like to compress 5 case logic cases into one all purpose with 20 compilation cd's of all my best stuff.

God the thought of it is making me feel dizzy.

Jees, did I say 20 compilations? that was meant to be 200.

Hello and welcome 042.gif i have never had my music stolen and hope i never do but i do have a full back up on my pc as mp3 and i also back that up to dvd. a lot of cd players are now able to play mp3's direct from a cd so its now a lot easyer and quicker to compress your music to play out. just think you can fit around 10 x 20 song albums = 200 tracks on a mp3 cd and in the future with dvd you will be able to fit nearlly 1200 songs but i would be so gutted if i ever lost any of my original cds/vinyl

Thanks for the replies everyone.

I have considered copying my entire collection and just taking the copies to the clubs I do, however (1) it would take too long and (2) a lot of the CD systems in the venue's I use don't like CDR's and tend to skip all over the show.
