Professional Mobile Disco & Wedding Disco

Ive finally decided to take the plunge and start up a mobile disco!

Hi, my name is Mark. I used to DJ at school discos and the odd birthday party for friends or family. When I started about 8 yrs ago (24 now!) I had 2 decks bought from a car boot, an old hi fi amp and loads of speakers. I used xmas tree lights and normal lamps with coloured bulbs! Yes, it was that bad!
Luckily, when I done the school discos, I used their own equipment so it wasnt too bad!
I then got into my cars etc and dropped the "disco". I bought a couple of belt drive decks secondhand with a mixer, and learnt how to mix properly. I spent all my earnings on vinyl and I loved it. So did my mates. I was always doing them my latest mix or remix on tape for them.
Then I met the missus and I sold the decks to make way for the baby (now 2.5 yrs old!).

Just recently, I went to my cousins christening. I wasnt impressed at all of the disco. I knew that I could do better, and armed with my limited experience, I`ve now decided to take the plunge and go for it and setup a mobile disco part time.

I`ve been reading the forum for lots of advice, and even contacted Chris to give me a price for the setup. Financially, it may not be the best time (coming up to xmas and all that), but i`ve decided that its always never the best time so i`m going for it.

I`ve decided on a name for the disco but not sure if I want to tell you guys yet!

Thanks for reading this, and I hope to be a regular contributor to this forum and I will keep you all informed of my progress.

Many Thanks To All & Keep Up The Good Work!

Hello and a very warm welcome to you, you will find all the information you require here, on any subject !!. We have people who like you have just started, or restarted to the oldies, like me, who have been doing it for a few years now. I think between me, Spin, Chris and Gary we have notched up over 150 years, add Mikeee in and it passes 200 biggrin.gif
Read the rules and I know you will enjoy it here, and don't be embrassed to ask any question, even if you think it is a daft question, we have no egos here, the moderators can spot them and they don't last too long, nobody is bigger and better than anyone else, and every question will be answered in a number of ways, giving you, and everyone different angles to look into, after all there are no hard questions, just questions you don't know the answers to !. So like I say have a look around and your input is greatly appricated here, don't think it is the same people on here we all started on 0 posts and worked up from there, once you have looked around you will want to come back daily I am sure.

BTW What is your disco name, after all we have just had a discussion on names and as you are justing starting again it may be a good idea to run ideas/names/equipment etc on here to test the water.

Thanks Guys. You are all very kind.

The name I was thinking of was either Xtreme Discos or Xtreme Entertainment. What do you think?
It was originally gonna be Mirage Discos or Mirage Entertainment but searching on the net, I found that was already being used.

Hi,

Your quote is underway even as we speak smile.gif . Good to see that you've taken the plunge and made your first post. We could always do with more regular contributors so if you ever feel the urge to post then indulge! thumbup.gif .

This forum is a great place to exchange idea's and learn from each other, we are all in the same business after all!. Another reason that it was set up, was to advise and educate those new to the industry, so hopefully cut down on the number of "Those" roadshow's similar to the one that you have already mentioned.

Enjoy your time here, and I look forward to reading your next post smile.gif

Hi there..welcome, welcome, welcome....

You three should think about having separate User ID's - Im sure that you'll all like to add your own points of view - and I know that the girls in here will love to get the gossip from one of you, about the other two. tongue.gif

As Paula mentioned - This time of year can be an ideal time to get the disco up and running. As long as your music tastes/performances are straight-forward ever popular commercial pop etc, then you'll easily be able to get bookings for dinner dance type functions in December when all the longer running disco's have been booked for months. They'll always be some company somewhere, who forgets to book a Disco until November the 30th.

Also consider getting (or printing) some business cards, pull on a suit and go and speak with all the "functions and banqueting" managers at the local(ish) hotels. They may get caught short "musically" too.

Finally, local pubs might have "lost" their regular DJ's for the month of December, so try the suit & card approach there too.

All the above suggestions, could carry through to next year also eg: A weekly booking in a pub etc.

Hi guys

Just to keep you up to speed...

I`ve decided on the name B-Xtreme Discos due to the fact (on from what the forum says), that if I stick the B in front then I get more to the top of the list!

I`ve just setup a simple web site and registered it with the most common search engines (yahoo, google, open directory etc). The search engines said it will take up to 2 wks to put the site on the lists. Anyway if you guys want to look, then please email me on my other email address that i`ve just set up bxtremediscos@homeinkemble.fsnet.co.uk . I`m not sure if I can put the web site address on here.
The site is very simple as I have never done one b4. I used freeserves own site builder to do it. Once i`ve got a few gigs, i`m hoping to put a few photos on there.

I`ll be making up different size advertisements 2day (A4, postcard size & buisness card size).
Then all i`m waiting for is the quote from Chris.

As you can see, i`m very eager and ready 2 go!

Many Thanks
M.Davies

Hi

Welcome and congrats for taking the plunge, I didn't the exact same thing as you, started at xmas time...never looked back and no matter how often I say I'm packing it in, I always come back.

Regarding your website.

Take a look at my article in the website discussion section, it'll set you on the right path before you make any mistakes. I'm no expert, but I've had some success with website matters and learned some hard lessons by doing it all wrong.

Good luck.

Darren
