Hmmm... the HD2500 is a great bit of kit, and these updates will make it a little better... but where is the MAJOR UPGRADE we were promised??

Lets look....

1) Hurrah - should have been able to do that from day 1
2) Hurrah - should have been able to do that from day 1 (as you can on the Numark)
3) Personally I dont use BPM to search, but I guess some DJs will find it useful
4) Nice touch (Numark does it though...)
5) Using 3 out of the 12 f keys .... more to come??
6) Dont quite understand this - I'll need to read up on it more
7) As I all ready own one, and use one, I have all ready removed all latin characters (not that I give a monkey's about them anyway)
8) After I have spent hours removing all Unicode from my tags!!!!
9) I suppose someone somewhere might use this, I certanly wont.
10) Ohh - flashie icon - yipeee.....
11) Hmmm - why would you want this unless the machine goes wrong?
12) Hmmm - why would you want this unless the machine goes wrong?
13) Cant really see a use for this, but I guess someone else might.
14) Personally, my internal drive is blank and will stay that way
15) Hubs have conditions - wow
16) Does this mean that if DDJMM recognises & plays the file, the HD2500 do the same??
17) Fixed minor bugs - I didnt spot any...
18) As I all ready use the HD2500, I have all ready input all the BPMs via other software.

This may seem like I am down on the upgrade, I'm not. The fact that Denon have listened to our comments and acted on them is great.

What has disappointed me is that for weeks now, we have been promised something "great" and "new" ... this is not it.
Gary
This is a seriously major upgrade. As you say, the 2500 does a lot of things already - theres wasnt a great deal more to add.

The upgrade will mean different things to different DJ. Denon, as you indicated, have listened to DJs prior to this upgrade and listened to a great many of them. One of the above enhancements made it onto the 2500 via myself, from a member of SEDA, who is also a member of this forum. His idea is now worldwide.

It's a bit like mobile phones; sure everyone wants a phone to make and receive calls, and maybe 75% of mobile phone users will want text messaging, 20% (perhaps) will ONLY buy a phone if its got picture/MMS messaging too, some will consider a built-in camera flash absolutely essential, others wont, and so on. A phone with lots and lots of features stands less chance of being left on the shelf (price permitting, of course), and indeed the same goes for any other mass product - some of the features will appeal to all (like a play button for example), other features will appeal to a huge percentage (like key adjust), other features may be regarded as just "optional".

Some of the new enhancements on this firmware, would have been useful to you, yourself Dale, a couple of months back - eg: the Auto BPM tag calculating and saving, and the Unicode compatibility - bot of which I appreciate you spent a lot of time working around. Obviously for all new purchasers of the DN-HD2500 (and you own use of adding new music purchases from now on) those features mean that no work around with numerous PC applications are required.

Your comments on one or two of the features of "I suppose someone might use this, I wont." (or something along those lines), effectively applies to all of the new & existing features of the DN-HD2500, just different features for different DJs.

Sorted any problems I had.

I think the mobile phone comparison is a very valid one Gary....

I've never figured out quite what some of the features do on my mobile and I fear it will be the same with the Denon....

I certainly am not knocking the product, it is SUPERB, the upgrade has tweaked the few minor issues I had and Denon really deserve huge credit for listening to what its customers were saying and putting as much right as they can at this time. (My next request would be to be able to export a list of everything played at a venue - that would be good).

I hope (and am sure they will) they continue to listen and react as well.

Oh - and - in dream land probably but worth a mention... wouldnt it be great if they were to do a deal with OTSDJ to "share" the way OTS analyses songs and fades them accordingly....
